Whispers at the Fire

  • Some say that Ezachiel can be seen wearing a small symbol of Azuth nowadays, and that he changed his clothes from a black and gray outfit to a blue and yellow one.

  • Rumors begin to spread that the Chancellor's advisor, Penny, found him lying face down in the snow in the Nars Pass, his garments and hair showing the tell-tale signs of being scorched by intense heat. Debates rage among the Boarshead patrons about just what happened that night, with the prevailing theory being that the former head of Spellweaver, Khyrill, cast a fireball in an offensive attack that struck the Chancellor.

  • late one night in Norwick, when most are sound asleep, the calm and quiet is suddenly broken by … the sound of someone puking their guts out behind the inner wall. The sound is horribly loud, echoing throughout the town to startle the guardsmen and disturb the rest of a few patrons of the Boarshead. The sound dies out quickly, but it is memorable enough to be talked about as travelers break fast the next day at the tavern.

  • There is talk at the Boarshead about a goblin spellcaster attacking the Chancellor within the walls of town recently. A guard on his off hours spins a tale of how he spotted the chancellor and some “blurry blue stone goblin statue thingy” magicking each other on the main road though town. He says when he approached to help the Chancellor, the blue thing suddenly vanished. Almost as soon as the blue thing had gone, a series of giant sized bats, hawks, and wolves appeared out of thin air to attack the Chancellor. The guard says he jumped into the fray killing several of the creatures only to watch them fade away as if they were never really there. He assures that the Chancellor was unharmed in the fight, but mentions how the elf did not seem surprised that he was attacked … he just seemed angry and annoyed that he was unable to fell the blue thing, that it still might be lurking out there somewhere waiting to strike again…

  • Mord can be seen moving about town on his normal guard rounds. When off duty he often can be found by the south gate keeping the guard company or foraying in short patrols outside the gates, with any that would join him

He walks the new ramparts and construction and then walks off distances outside the walls and marks several trees. He can be seen bent down talking softly with Belin and nodding at her comment then they head to the walls and resume their posts

  • Leaving the Militia Barracks in a foul mood after a talk he had with Dwin, Ezachiel starts looking around town for a certain type of books, burning every last one he can find. He can be overheard grumbling about things he'll do to those responsible for this.

  • ICC

When asked about who was the half orc that Aledgly "harrased and Threatened" Ezachiel, kull replys that it was him and that if Ezachiel considers a warning and an advise about turning him self to proove his inocence and that by doing so he would have a fair trial, then Ezachiel is a fool

KULL (Half Orc Barbarian, Training Officer and Major in the Legion)

“To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!”

  • While reading a bit near the North Gate, Ezachiel was approached by a legionaire half-orc, wearing black full plate and a blue cloak, who spent some time harassing and threatening him, with Ezachiel trying to respond politely, until he could finally get back to his reading when the halfer left.

  • Mogrim and a red robed monk walked through the South gate and closed it. Within seconds of it closing it opened again. Thinking nothing of it Mogrim closes it again. Myseriously it re- opens, of its own accord. Shocked Mogrim and the monk step back from the gate worried of wicked magics. The gates opened and closes several more times to the dismay of the two on lookers. Shaking his head Mogrim turns from the gates, "Damned wild magic. And damn mages."

  • For a tenday, those entering bugbear territory from the direction of Norwick may catch sight of the rune below on the bark of a tree. If anyone understood the bugbear's tongue, they might catch a few insults directed at a band of "treehuggers" from the patrols.

  • The Halfling Defence League

_a local fixture in the rawlinswood for nigh on 30 years now, Fadia has been seen less and less of late. on the occaisions that she is, she seems despondent, and quite obviously deeply depressed

what the hoo-hah's up with her?_

  • The barricade is better than anything we’ve had here before. With skirmishers just outside the gate to harass them on the way in, then shooters, then those at the end of the barricade to pin them…to me, it seemed a slaughter.

He turns his helm slightly nodding to the nearest guard

Pile the bodies up high and set them alight, a signal to their tribe that none of their warriors will return from this battle.

The chancellor then moves to Shay and speaks with her a moment. She responds with a sharp “yes sir!” and goes about making preparations. Within a few hours, a small group of guardsmen led by Shay and Loc make their way west, leaving a trail of goblin corpses in their wake.

  • The strategist and skirmisher called Caling (ex heroic knight of Sune) happens to be passing through Norwick on unrelated business during the hours of daylight. She overhears this exchange of views regarding archer visibility and deigns to offer her considerable experience

_'You know, Foily, He's got a bit of a point… If the archers had better visibility of the approach to the gate, like the guys on Sam's Hill have, they could maybe prevent the little greenboys from walking up and kegging it.

'Ooh, Maybe a double-gate between some earthworks! If that gave people a bit of access to get an angle to loose arrows -along- the wall, you could stop the guys with ladders too._

Assuming she doesn't have to flee an irate dwarven temper, she'll submit a sketch of two parallel ((1x3)) raised earthworks with 2 gates between them. Ramps to access the earthworks should allow defending archers a commanding view of the killing ground between the gates as well as visibility along the wall.

  • _Overhearing William, Foilir points north and east with his staff informing him that Jiyyd and the Legion base is that way.

He also adds that he is more than free to stay, as his deaths have led to an incdredible increase in the local economy through sales of small diamonds and healing services.

The dwarf plants the staff into the ground and stands staring at the human, wondering how someone who has died more times than years he has been alive, can possibly think about speaking of tactics._

  • _After a goblin assassin tried to kill the Chancellor during the attack William was heard to comment that this is one of the unfortunate consequences of having a defense that requires the enemy be allowed inside the gates to be effective.

During the attack, it is notable that the only people using the archer towers were Scouts attached to the Norwick Militia - and they used their bows almost not at all. The main group of archers stood just inside the gateway itself, since that was the only place in the defense they could make use of the full range of their weapons with an adequate field of fire, and also hit attackers close to the wall._

  • _Foilir talks to the guards at the South Gate after yet another goblin attack.

The amazing resonance of the gong attracting folk from leagues away, clearly hit by an overzealous guard with all their might.

The overzealous 'outsider' defenders creating a small mob outside the gate, rendering the new norwick defenses useless.

Nonetheless, the armored dwarf is impressed at the lack of death, especially of the skinny known as William. He chuckles a bit knowing that somewhere, something of value is exchanging goblin hands as the friar's most frequent customer somehow lived this night.

He instructs the guards not to leave the gates but to guard on the other sides of the cross hatched wood defenses, with archers supporting them on the tower.

After barking out his orders calmly, he goes to find his cousin about some gates._

  • Following shortly after the previous goblin events, a large scale goblin attack is launched all night at the town, with a strange grey beast appearing shortly after it finishes which vanished into mist when slain.

As the Dawn breaks, two men in the armour of the Watchfull Repose can be seen doing the long task of collecting all the bodies from the battlefield and creating a Pyre, speaking to Kelemvor to tell him of the Goblins passing so he may judge them, as the bodies are burnt, then the ashs buried.

  • What the fark we got here? Jiyyd II? Folks think they can walk around skinnin greenskins and that they aint gonna rise up and cause us problems?

Dwin tells the guards to take names of anyone bragging or discussing the slaughter of goblins.

OH! and I found another farkin book outside me crafting hall…

Dwin stomps off to find Lucid.

  • Those in the west rawlins may have heard high screams in the night. At daybreak any wanderes could find the bodies of two goblins skinned and stacked to trees.

  • Dwin is seen carrying a few odd looking books through town and asking the guards who was sitting near the well recently.
