Random Narfell Tips Thread!
-
Invest in invis potions for when you reaaaaly need them, also remember to use them as absolutely last resort
-
TIP:
Shoot on the run!
If you're playing a ranged character knowing this can really save your bacon. While running, count off six seconds, take a shot at whatever is chasing you, and keep running. Keep in mind that you take the shot AS SOON AS YOUR AVATAR STARTS TURNING TO FACE THE TARGET. So as soon as you see your character start to turn, click away and keep running. You don't have to stand and wait for the avatar to finish the shooting animation.

Tip: Try to keep tips about how to play characters based on RP choices to a minimum, as those things are usually personal choices that are not necessarily supported by the DM team and can coerce or conflict with other people's personal choices that are just as valid. By "consecrating" your RP choice as a tip, you can potentially offend others who think differently.
–--
Example of a good tip: A potion on your corpsebag is useless. Drink potions that can prevent you from creating a corpsebag!
Example of a bad tip: RP catching a breath now and then, it's unrealistic to fight for hours without catching a breath. After running more than two maps in a row, you should RP panting.
In short - don't tip others about how to play their characters, even if you're making sense. Nobody likes being told how to play their character.
For general RP tips and helpful guides about roleplay, we have plenty of DM sanctioned stuff in both The New Adventurer's Inn and The Tome of Knowledge.
Come on guys, keep it fair and this thread can become really useful.
-
Tip: Don't be a miser when it comes to potions. Healing or otherwise, always spend your gold where you're weakest.
-
Tip:
As a cleric, challenge yourself to try and use as little self cast healing as possible, investing a few hundred gold in cure moderate potions can extend the longevity and potency of your trips significantly without having to worry for a rest!
-
Tip:
To successfully navigate in the dark, memorize where things are (doors, trees, gates, rocks, etc) while it's light out, then practice moving about without artificial light after sundown. It might come in handy.

TIP:
If you play naked, be careful when you pour yourself a cup of coffee.
-
Tip: If something looks like a bug or unintended, contact a DM to make sure before taking advantage of it.
For example: If a goblin shortie drops a +3 sword, even if you killed the goblin and looted the sword all legit, anyone knows that's not right. The sword+3 will be noticed eventually and by keeping it quiet the trust the DM team had on you may suffer a serious dent.

Tip:
DM's and DEVs are people too who work very hard to keep this server going and make things fun. There are times disagreements may exist or people might have feelings towards them they feel is justified, but its often much easier to just try to put things in perspective or take a moment to talk to a PG or them themselves and find a solution than just brooding on it.
I myself am guilty of this, as well as being on a receiving end after being a DM on another server for almost a year, and I can tell you it sucks and often makes people want to quit.
Be nice, realize we're all here to have fun, and work on finding ways to make things even more fun!
(please don't turn this into a discussion, just my tip!)

Invest in healing potions.
-
Important one: Be nice to people OOCly! Everyone enjoys better the company of a nice person, even when their character doesn't get along with yours. Politeness and niceness goes a long way.
-
Think of things/items/materials that your PC might be working with and integrate it into your role play around the fire to liven up the encounter.
-
Tip: Tips are most efficient as one-liners, and links to official sources are generally more helpful and accurate than homebrew explanations.
For example: What is Charisma?
-
Tip:
Role play your character's stats.
Seeing that the lowest stat in NWN is usually 8, you never have to RP your character as being totally stupid, unwise or uncharasmatic. At worse you character is "below average" if you dump a stat.
If your playing a character with below average CHA for instance, that character is probably more likely to be led than to be a leader. Unless they have ranks in Persuade or Intimidate that is.
Sometimes folks mistake CHA for sexiness. Just remember that Ghouls and Liches have high CHA scores. That amazingly attractive bimbo with low self esteem has a low CHA score. People with lower CHA scores are usually easier to manipulate on an emotional level than folks with higher scores.
Same with INT and WIS. Sometimes your character class has no mechanical use for one or more of the mental stats, so it gets dumped. Try to bring that flaw out in your RP. Folks notice when you don't.

Tip: ;-; I guess this is a tip but if you use the pan keys to zoom in you get a slightly better range
-
Tip:
Make friends! It's dangerous to go alone.
-
Tip:
You can drink two potions in one "round". Monsters can only get one attack of opportunity in a round however. So it's worth hotkeying your healing potions and giving it a double tap whenever you need healing.
-
Tip:
Lots of enemies on Narfell taunt, get Concentration!
