Glebur the Gray, monk, scholar and scribe
-
Ever since he was a little boy his parents knew that he was special. He had a certain quickness about him. His body reacted much quicker than that of his kinsmen and while his friends preferred to fight with big axes and swords he always preferred his own two fists. At the age of 17 he was observed by a passing monk while sparring with one of his friends, and the monk was intrigued by the dwarf's seemingly natural talent for the art of hand to hand combat. After speaking to Glebur's parents, it was agreed that Glebur would return to the monastery with the monk, a monk of the Children of The Passive Voice. Now Glebur's adventure had really begun.
On the way to the Monastery Glebur was uncertain, scared of what might come, but he also felt a calling, as though this was what he was meant to do. He had always known that he was different than his friends, but he still had his questions. Why me? How? Where is he taking me? Will I ever see my parents again? These were just a few of the questions that raced through his mind as he made his way towards the monastery from from his small mountain town in the Sword Mountains. The road ahead was long, but was filled with many adventures.
When they first left the town, the monk revealed his name, he was Cyri'ellinen the Wise, an elf and one of highest ranking monks at his monastery. He told Glebur that the road would be tough and that on their way to the monastery, a little north of Beregost, Glebur would have to overcome many trials, but if he did he would be well rewarded. So off they went along the Sword Coast off towards a town, a distant town.
On their second night of travel Glebur was awoken by Cyri'ellinen who simply put his hand of Glebur's mouth so that he would not scream out, due to his sudden waking. Cyri'ellinen simply put his finger to his lips, telling Glebur to be silent, he then pointed and about 15 feet from their camp was a pack of rats who had apparently caught the sent of the food that Glebur and Cyri'ellinen had cooked that night. Cyri'ellinen whispered as quitely as he could that he wanted Glebur to fight off the rats, that this was one of tests, his first trial, his first chance to show that he was gifted in the art of hand to hand combat. As quitely as he could Glebur snuck up on the rats. He creeped towards them, slowing and quieting his breathing, slowly placing once foot in front of the other, then a load snap pierced the still night air, Glebur had stepped on a fallen branch snapping it clean in two. Hearing this noise the rats turned to him immidiately, and scurried towards him. There were four of them and they were hungry, starved, skin and bones. In a ravenous frenzy the first one lept to attack to Glebur, but was batted away by Glebur's fist, but he was simply stunned and was soon ready to attack once more.
The other three charged him at once their mouths salivating in anticipation of the feast to come. Glebur successfully held off the first two, but the last one dug his teeth deep into Glebur's flesh. Glebur let out a scream of pain as he felt the rat's teeth sink deeper and deeper into his flesh. Then Glebur raised his fist and punched the rat crushing its skull, and releasing the rats jaws from his leg. The first rat to attack Glebur made another charge, but was quickly dealt with by Glebur's foot with a sharp kick, breaking the rats neck. The remainig two rats charged him and he struck them both simply injurying them. One of the rats attacked again but was dealt with with a swift kick to the side and the last rat was finished by a punch to the head. Glebur collapsed, the adrenaline subsiding, and the pain returning to his arm, it was becoming unbearable and as he looked up from the ground, his vision fading to black he saw Cyri'ellinen standing over him, and he said you have done well, you have passed your first trial and with that Glebur's vision went and he became unconcious on the ground where he would lie until morning…<to be="" continued="">______________________________________________________________
