My story? Alright well I was born in an farming community south of Beregost in the Sword Coast. My family wasn’t poor or rich but, we had our own land and we nurtured it. I was well fed and happy, I had a good family and lots of friends.
What? You were expecting some sort of tragedy? Oh please…anyways. Once when I was of age I signed in with an apprenticeship with a local smith, Master Bruin. My folks were so happy for me, you see the smith was important man in our community. He was rich, respected and his name carried weight. But I always though there something odd about that guy, and you know what I was right.
The old man wasn’t a bad teacher mind you. I was stronger and more dexterous than average student, I also had a quick wit and even quicker tongue. Master Bruin creates weapons and armor for a price, he made a good living out if it. I coped well with his demands and learned in the process, he wasn’t a cruel man. We traveled to far off places; from Baldur’s Gate to Luskan to Zhentil Keep, while selling our wares. The man’s problem was gambling and the bad habit of embezzling his costumers.
Our last journey was too Waterdeep, to set up shop there. One night after doing some deliveries, I found him face down in front of his make shift smithy stabbed to death. I sold his weapon stock and other belongings to pay his debts, his very LARGE debts. I barely had enough to feed myself in the end. I left soon after…
What did you say? I left without avenging his death? Cowardice!? Hey I did what I could, I went to the local constable and got nothing. I used every contact Master Bruin to get help and all I got was more debts! Anyways I got the idea whoever got to him was powerful and didn’t want to be found. Besides what would I, a smith’s apprentice, do if I actually found the assassin? Get killed that’s what and that’s stupid…discretion is the better part of valor.
I left Waterdeep with a trading caravan working as a guard. I met Brother Tobias a follower of Ohgma. Good man him helped me with training as a fighter. What? You ask why I needed training when I was guard already? Well what do you expect, I was a smith’s apprentice, I didn’t train as a fighter. Like I said Brother Tobias was a good man. I even picked up his faith, about Ohgma. Oh yeah I found out I really like great swords.
After a while I decided to strike out on my own. I drifted for a while until I reached here. I’m hoping that I can make some cash here and who knows maybe even learn something new….
