History of Damian Colten (1464 DR)
Born on 19th of Nightal, 1442 DR, Damian was first of two. He was the first born son of the Colten familyand was raised in Praka, the fortress city of southwestern Damara. His father, Blaine, was a captain of the Red Dragon (An elite strike force of the legendary Red Legion). He was an extremely proud and ridged man whose discipline could only be weakened by the sight of his children. Damian's mother, Miriam, was a kind and lovely woman. Whose fiery red hair and soft features were only exceeded by the warmth of her heart.
Four years later, another son, Maric was born.
The day after his tenth birthday, he was taken by his father to the Academy in Praka where he was put through several vigorous tests to determine his placement. He was deemed unfit for combat, but showed promise in academic pursuits. Unhappy that he was to be denied the training that made his family known, he grudgingly accepted his fate.
Bound in leather, enveloped in parchment, Damian began to become fascinated by history and folklore and spent many hours in the libraries in the town hall.
Years pass, and Damian eventually becomes a member of the Lore society. He was assigned to a team of scholars whose job it was to record and preserve the tattered remnants of the province's history.
During this time, Damian became more and more involved in the local government. He eventually befriended the city's governor. Who also happened to be a cleric of Helm. Through discussions and lectures, Damian was eventually persuaded to join the clergy. During his brief stint as a priest of Helm, the young man began to feel restless in his position. His younger brother, Maric, was already enrolled in he local militia and was receiving the training Damian was denied years earlier. After his training as complete, Maric had his sights set on leaving Praka in search of adventure and glory. Several months later, that’s just what happened. Maric left he family home and traveled east, towards Narfell province.
After his brother's departure, Damian decided that he too will travel and perhaps join his brother. Since the militia still denies him his training as a fighter and refuses to prepare him, Damian traded his priest life for ones that would better serve his desires. He took the vows and became a warrior for Helm.
He was just starting his study of martial weapons when the first message from his brother arrived. Maric had settled in the small town of Jiyyd and was, already, experiencing things that Damian only dreamed about. This only pushed Damian harder. He began to train extensively in all the traits common to a paladin.
Every week, a new message from Maric arrived. These were a constant source of inspiration and pride for Damian. They acted like fuel, driving him harder so he would be ready to one day join his brother. Then, the messages stopped arriving. At first the family thought that he was perhaps indisposed and figured that they will get another soon, but as the weeks went by and still no messages, their thoughts turned to darker ones. Damian's mother began to have nightmares. His father, as strong as he was, could not hide the worry and fear on his face.
The seasons changed, and Damian, not being able to contain his anxiousness, prepared to find his brother. Not quite yet prepared, he assured his family that once he found Maric he would return to complete his training. And so, Damian Colten set off for the town of Jiyyd. He went looking for his lost brother, what he would find would change him forever…
