Gaius Aurelius

  • Peltarch Far Scouts

    Race: Moon Elf
    Height: 5'10"
    Weight: 150 lbs.
Body Build: Quite skinny, but almost all his weight is muscle. As a consequence, he's a fair measure stronger than he appears - but his body does not betray his aerobic stamina. If there's one thing Gaius is proud of, it's his fitness (and the self-discipline it took to build it and takes to maintain it).
    Hair: An earthy brown.
Skin: Gaius's travels have afforded him a light tan by Elvish standards; humans still consider him pale.

Gaius is an anomaly. He was taken (by his elven parents) from the forest at a young age and brought to the city; it was this urban environment that shaped him. Though he cannot be sure, he supposes that his father, a well-traveled man, considered the traditional human education to be more valuable than the tribal sort of education given elves by their communities. Whether or not Gaius's guess is correct, he did indeed recieve said education - in fact, he was given an exceptional schooling at the finest of institutions. Although much of his knowledge pertains to his home continent (which he left soon after his schooling ended), his studies imparted to him an erudite and learned air noticable by anyone who speaks with him.

Gaius left his home continent after some travels there, and came to Narfell by ship. His motives for this drastic move are unclear, even to himself; at home his education could have made him a fortune as a banker, merchant, writer, or politician. It is thus all the more curious that he forsook the foundation that had been so carefully laid for him.

Though Gaius may have lost some of the urbane dogmatism in his travels, he still frowns dismissively on 'barbarism,' although he will be the first to admit that his definition of it is extremely broad. At times, he even sees himself as civilization's purveyor and defender. Gaius, however, does not impose a moral code upon others and is not a member of a fundamentalist religion (he sees these as hindrences to social progression); rather, he operates by reason and his own principles in equal measure. His education left him with eternal willingness, nay - eagerness, to discuss all things political and philosophical. Buying him an ale and engaging him in a real conversation about consequential topics makes for a hearty evening.

In light of his background, it is partly surprising that Gaius chose a rough, military career - then again, looking at his past choices almost makes one feel they could have seen it coming. Why this elf consistently makes the less comfortable choice is anyone's guess.

When time permits it, Gaius enjoys satisfying his voracious literary appetite, or contributing his share to the written world. He can sometimes be found training with his bow or sword, or perhaps hiking in the safer parts of the countryside. He also enjoys getting to know people and exchanging ideas with others, or just thinking alone. He is, overall, a befuddlement for others to ponder if they will, and a pleasant companion in most any situation.
