Death in the Night
-
_City Guard have reported a scuffle last night in the Mermaid resulting in three dead. One of them, a woman later found to be a local prostitute, was found murdered in one of the inn rooms' beds with a slit throat, and the bodies of two unknown armed thugs were found in the nearby corridor.
When questioned, the inn owner commented the man who rented that room went by the name of Alexios, and spoke with a definate Chessentan accent. This Alexios was not among those killed during the night, so the Guard has posted up a search warrant._

The magistrate seeks out the names of the visitors to the room some minutes before the fight broke out. As the man is a defender he seeks out his name and rank and, he looks to see if there is any connection; family or business associated with them and the prostitute. Also if there is any connection between the defender or his companion either physically through resemblance or any associations seen about the city.
He also asks at the inn whether the man with the red hair had any visitors aside from the prostitute, and whether they recall them going up to the room together or whether the prostitute went alone to his room. He asks around the commercial districts to see if the red haired man visited any shops or any guilds, to establish his movements about the city, as well as the duration of his stay.
He asks about the identity of the woman found dead, and her name to see if she was indeed a prostitute known about the city?
Finally, he asks for the names and descriptions of any other visitors, before ordering the room be sealed so it can be properly searched, until the investigation is over.
A warrent is placed upon the description of the red haired man for his questioning, as so far he is the prime witness and suspect.
Back at the mortuary, the magistrate asks for the dead thuggish individuals posessions to be catalogued including any citizenship papers to see if they are local or bear any tattoos or affiliation to known organisations.

The Magistrate Barrim goes to see if the guard have had any progress on this incident yet, and seeing that most seem to be on active readiness cleaning and preparing equipment he decides to see what he or his staff can do.
The city guard have more or less established that the room was rented to one Alexios, a fellow in his thrities with red hair and a large moustache as well as a strong Chessentan accent. He seemed new to the city due to the questions he was making. The woman who they found dead in the room was a prostitute.
The Magistrate reads the report and goes to speak to the innkeeper and the mortician.
The mortician seems sure that the woman died very suddenly due to the precise stab in the neck she received.
The innkeeper says a Defender and an armoured woman went up to the room around ten minutes before the scuffle broke out. He then heard thumps on the ceiling from the first floor, and blades clashing. He also says he saw a figure leap to the street close to the main window and run off into the city crowd.
The defender and his warrioress companion left the inn with a hooded man who seemed quite agitated. He knows nothing else, except that once things had quietened down a bit he went up to find the body of the woman on the room bed. Outside the room, two thuggish armed individuals were slumped against the corridor walls, dead and with wounds caused by large bladed weapons.
