Chia Tsiiojing

  • The quiet little monastery between villages had never seen anything like this. Monks who gave their service by traveling the roads and burying the dead were ill prepared to become nursemaids and surrogate parents. But that was exactly the task set before them when they discovered an abandoned young girl child at their gate, one summer evening.

The men of the monastery did their best with this headstrong and earthy child. They taught her their craft and she learned eagerly, walking the roads and burying the dead from an early age. And while Chia displayed an aptitude for the discipline of the combative monk arts, she chafed under the strict rules of poverty and restraint the monks taught her. That there were rules in the Universe she was certain, that the monks understood those rules she doubted.

Her desire to achieve physical mastery did not end at the edges of combat and self denial, and so she felt certain the same techniques the monks taught could be applied to more than simply defending oneself and altering one's interior state. She began to apply their teachings to all parts of life, accepting all of the functions of the body as all equally pure. A brief affair with one of the monks was discovered. He was beaten and allowed to continue his studies, she was asked to leave the monastery.

Chia Tsiiojing is a mass of earthy humor and formal politeness that can be surprising and disarming. Unafraid of anything the Universe Provides she accepts all while holding on to her conviction that if she could only discover that set of rules that jibed most with the Natural Order she could achieve Transcendence. Currently she's fixated on furthering her study of the Life Arts (as she referrers to the art of the Monk) and exploring all of Narfell. She is working on a map of her own and dreams of one day writing a travel log of her explorations.
