    Background

Kais Gresson grew up with his mother, Elizabeth Gresson, in their family home in the sea port of Hlammach. His father was a merchant, and would visit the house for a few weeks per season.
Kais went to a Rich school, and, as his father was a merchant, was often the butt of many jokes.
Kais enjoyed his father’s stories, and loved the artefacts he brought back, and begin to recognise the more expensive items his father used to bring. His grandfather had known a dwarf, and his father used to consult him about items worth. The dwarf took a liking to young Kais, and taught him how to recognise good and shoddy craftsmanship.
The dwarf also used to ramble in dwarfish a lot, while considering and thinking. Kais picked up a basic knowledge of dwarven, and then with the help of the dwarf (who hated seeing an unfinished job) learnt the rest of the dwarven language.
At the age of 12 Kais went with his father on trading trips. Over the period of the next few years, until he was 16, He slowly learned the languages of his customers, Halfling, Elven, Orc and Gnome.
At the age of 16, Kais set out on his own, with a few contacts, and some money borrowed from his father. After working in Hlammach for a while, Kais began trading around.
At the age of 19, whilst staying in Dilpur, Kais happened to see a mugging, four thugs were kicking at a body that was trying to protect itself, around was the unconscious bodies of a further 3 thugs, and the thugs that were still up, beard the marks of a fight. Kais rushed in, and with his current hired hand, managed to save the victim. Kais quickly stabilised her condition, and took her back to the inn he was staying at, to rest.
In the morning, the mystery victim awoke, and after hearing what happened to her, identified herself as Nessa Lissësúl, A ranger. Unfortunately, the thugs had made off with all her equipment and supplies, so Kais offered to help her. This was rather out of character for him, and while he was helping her, often he pondered why he was doing it. Nessa became a good friend of his, and over the next year, Kais fully appreciated having the witty and charming (not to mention attractive) Nessa around. During the course of the year, Kais realised, he had fallen in love. After short time of indecision, He finally confessed his feelings to Nessa, and was prepared for anything, or so he thought. He was pleasantly surprised to hear Nessa tell him, that she felt the same about him as he did for her.
They began dating, and their relationship took to a new level, and after a year, Kais proposed. The now 21-year-old Kais, and 257-year-old Nessa married in a big ceremony at his new home in Lyrabar. In order to be with his wife more, Kais stopped open trading, and opened a shop in Lyrabar His shop was a roaring success, as his Brilliant business sense, meant he always had a wide selection of everything.
In the year Kais turned 25, Nessa Began acting strange, after a few moths it was obvious why; she was pregnant. A few months later, and Cinaro Gresson was born.
After four years of relative peace and contentment, problems started. The vast majority of Kais’ family were also merchants, including his uncle, Frenados, Frenados was the owner of several merchant ships, and he had been quite profitable. But, during an incident in the last year, He had lost all but one of his boats to pirates, and was asking the family to help contribute to a hunting mission, to find and re-take his beloved ships. Naturally Kais agreed, and he sent a vast sum of money, as well as a selection of equipment. The mission was a success, the pirates were located, and the boats retrieved, and, combined with the ones that had been bought for the mission, left his uncle in a very good position.
Unfortunately, The pirates who captured the boats escaped, and took it personally, that a merchant dared to reclaim what was his, and so, Began a campaign against the Gresson family.
Kais’ shop was the first port of call of the pirate captain, as, slightly inebriated, he walked in, as the shop was opening, and pulled out a knife and showed it to Kais. Kais immediately identified it as one that he had sold, and said so. At which point the Pirate pulled up his shirt, and showed him a scar, just below his heart, where he had been stabbed.
The pirate who identified himself as wolfclaw, Had planted a powder keg, and as he left, He lit it. Luckily there was more than one way out of the building, one of which was kept a secret. Kais got out of the shop, in time to see it explode, and as it did, He ran for his house.
In the house Nessa had been taken by surprise, and was tied to another powder keg. His son was missing. As quickly as he could, He untied Nessa, and they ran for the door, leaving just as it exploded.
Kais was knocked out by a piece of wood, and when he came to, a few minutes later, he found himself in a puddle of blood, next to him, was his wife, with a splinter piercing her chest. As he knelt there, distraught, he failed to notice, the return of the perpetrators. Restrained, he could do nothing, as the captain held his son in front of him, and taunted him, explaining how his son would grow up to be a pirate.
Kais was knocked out before they left, and as he lay there, He dreamed. Nessa came to him, and told him not to worry about her, and that she would watch over him, she also told him, of where the pirates weighed anchor, and how to find them.
He awoke, to find himself without an injury, and as he searched through the rubble of his house, his cousin, one of the few mages in his family arrived.
His cousin told Kais, how Nessa had appeared, while he was divining, and had showed him, what had happened.
They headed to <port>where his uncle’s trading fleet was anchored. Upon arriving, his uncle was only too happy to help. And so they set off.
After a month at sea, they finally found the Pirate vessel, and after a short fight, the vessel was taken. After a deck-by-deck search, they finally found the captain, Hidden in a crate, holding Cinaro as a hostage. Wolfclaw made his way to the top deck, while threatening Cinaro. There, he made his demands; that all his crew returned to him, his ship re-stocked, and that any Gresson present, be weighted down, and thrown overboard. After a long silence, the captain yelled “Fark yeh then, damn all yeh to the depths” and in one move slit both his, and Cinaro’s throat.
That night, on the journey home, he was greeted in his sleep, both Cinaro and Nessa said that they loved him, and then they said goodbye.
On the journey home, Kais slowly came to terms with the deaths of his loved ones, and decided not to throw his life away needlessly. After getting home, He returned to Lyrabar and sorted out a caravan, To Mulptan via Narfell, under the persuasion it was safer then going through Dale.
This was to be his latest Tragedy, as bandits, led by a powerful caster, ambushed the caravan. In a few seconds it was all over, and Kais Fell, With an arrow piercing his heart. As he slipped into unconsciousness, He saw an old man, sparks, and heard outlandish languages.
When he woke up, he was in a cave, and the old man was there, the old man told him, how he had driven off the goblins, and that Kais was safe. Having seen the power the old man wielded, Kais Requested that he be taught, Ideas of how to make a profit already in his mind.
And so, he spent a month learning, Draconic, spell crafting, and healing. Finaly, the old man was convinced that Kais had learned enough for him to be set off on his own, and escorted him to Norwick.
There, Kais began picking up the pieces of his life again.</port>
