    Enzo, son of a slave woman, bastard of a powerful Autharch of Eltabbar, left his poverty early for the service of Lady Lexi. He fought several battles as a swordsman in her private army before his skill with language and things logic became known to her. Lady Lexi rose in power, becoming a figure of politics and interest when she single-handedly slayed Huhan, a precocious Red Wizard of Surthay, during a fight over Southland Keep. Carefully negotiated diplomacy kept her from prison, and instead elevated her to Baroness of Southland, an Autharch of some import in Surthay.

    As Lexi's power grew, so did Enzo's fortune. He was soon removed from military status and placed in service of her court, a scribe and diplomat to functions of commerce. In a bizzare twist of events following the sudden death of one of the zulkirs, Lexi was promoted to Tharch of Surthay. Enzo moved with her court to the town of Surthay and took residence there within the Tharch's castle. Long a poor and remote region of Thay, Lexi was not content to allow Surthay to remain an outpost of the powerful kingdom. In acting many reforms, she secured several important trading contracts with local regions to strength her power and wealth.

    Lexi recognized that the source of Surthay's misery lay in its continual conflicts. In a mastery of negotiation, a tremulous ceasefire was struck between Surthay and Rashemen, allowing the ports to blossom with goods. In an attempt to further her ambitions, the Tharch has dispatched many emissaries to all the neighboring lands. And so to Narfell did Enzo travel.
