A song in the commons

  • Talk in the town intensifies as the town council prepares to meet. Tempers on some flare and others are seen to nervously sharpen weapons or double check defences.

Jerr, the Skald, sits on a bench and softly sings.

I lost my brother through a looking glass
It sparkled and shined and away he passed
I see his reflection but it will not last
For its not my brother, tis the looking glass

Here and there I see it, shining so bright
Catching the sun and throwing up the light
They tell me its there to save what is right
But which side am I on if it comes to fight?

One lost a mother to the shiny looking thing
Another a sister, or one who coud sing
Friends and family, them back I would bring
To save them all I would give anything

I see them still, those who are lost
Their reflections haunt me, remind me the cost
But they are in the glass, by it they are bossed
We wait for a change, all our lives are now paused

In the looking glass they all stay and they look out
Outside the gate we don't talk but we shout
But if attacked they will help, our enemies rout
But we cannot forget the rhetoric they spout

I lost my brother through a looking glass
It sparkled and shined and away he passed
I see his reflection but it will not last
For its not my brother, tis the looking glass

  • Elor watches with great interest, scribbling something in his notebook when the song is over.
