In the shadow of the tower

  • Dredoc looked up and said to Frurry ""Ere he comes again."

Frurry looked up and smiled. "least he sings nice."

"Sings nice? If 'e gets her attention and she don't agree with ya then she may decide that we would make nice snacks, too. What kinda Idiot tries to get the attention of a dragon?"

    "You ever ask him that?"

"Ask a big old guy who carries an axe the size of one that fits the general if he would mind singing somewhere else? Riiiiight. She is napping up there and maybe he won't wake her." he spits off to the side, away from the flowers. "And ye are right, 'e does sing nice. Morning, Jerr."

"Gentlemen, the garden looks nice as always." The skald smiled down at the azelias and then squinted up it the top of the emerald tower. "She move?"

    "No sir she ain't."

Jerr shrugged and settled down and brushed snow and a bit of bone off of the top of his drum. "Was out boxing." He swipes some blood off of the side. "Did morning song and they interupted me. Bloody orcs."

Both of them made a mental note not to interupt the skald while he was singing. A quick glance at his bruised and bloody knuckles showed he did not need the axe to be dangerous. From the battle axe on his hip to the great axe across his shoulder and a bow slung back and low he was a small armory. He snorted as he finished cleaning the drum . . . .something about siccing his wife on the fool orcs if they made any more trouble.

The drum beat started soft and grew, like some giant heartbeat. When the throbbing was full in the area and the gardeners found themselves swaying to the beat the skald began to sing.

He said it was safe and promised no fire
    He lead them all astray
He showed them the path, the dirty liar
    All were killed that day

He sang them sweet songs of riches galore
He knew what strings to pluck
They followed him blindly, tired and footsore
But they were out of luck

She's not home, he told them, as they went inside
the hoard is there for the taking
Too late they found out of the lies and they cried
For he had been only faking

She dined on them all, one by one
and then she said to the bard
That was to easy, make it more fun
Next time bring me warriors hard

He says it is safe, and promises riches
he sings of gold and of jewels
But know that the fates are sometimes the bitches
Who lay traps for greedy fools

Jerr looked up and then shrugs.

The two gardeners look at each other but do not clap, they had seen that he didn't like applause. Dredoc picked a flower for him to take to his wife and Jerr smiled, tucking it on top of the pack. "I'll be back in a day or three. Keep wall lads."

They nodded their thanks for the song, both feeling a little more buoyed as they returned to their gardens and the skald headed back down the hill and out towards Jiyyd.
