Kelnethar, tormented ranger

Login-Ranger Khell
Character-KelnetharOn a crisp autumn eve some 20 years past, a duo of Elven rangers, Tomil Darkwood and his son, Nadar, were traveling through the High Forest when they noticed a thin line of smoke on the horizon. Thinking it to be a camp fire, they sought it out, thinking they might share its warmth to cut the icy chill of the night. Upon discovering the camp, they were devastated to find it had been brutally attacked, leaving only tattered tents, a few burnt wagons, and the charred remains of several people. They found nothing of value among the ruin, leading them to believe it the work of some kind of bandits. By chance, they searched the area and were surprised to find a small basket hidden among the nearby shrubbery, and even more surprised to discover that inside was what appeared to be a male half-elven baby, sleeping peacefully. The child was taken back to their cabin in the woods, where Tomil and his human wife Joauna decided they must raise and care for him.
Kelnethar, for that is what they came to call the child, spent a wonderful childhood among the woods. Tomil and Nadar educated Kelnethar in the ways of the wood and in the fighting arts, and Kelnethar grew to be a strong, kind and loving young man. He was raised along side Tomil and Joauna’s son Khell, who was only a few years younger than he. They forged a strong bond of brotherhood, and were rarely apart.
Always tormented by thoughts of his beginnings, Kelnethar faced an eternal struggle between goodly pursuits and dark thoughts of revenge. He felt compelled to learn of his origins, of his family, but was afraid of what he may find out. Tomil and Joauna were wonderful parents, always giving love to a child that was not there own, but they knew that eventually, Kelnethar would need answers. Therefore, they were not surprised when on his eighteenth birthday, Kelnethar came to them with desires to go out into the world, seeking the truth. Both parents bid him to go and do what he needed, for they knew they could not keep him in the safety of their home forever. Khell could not let his friend leave on his own, so he elected to accompany Kelnethar, and even convinced the older Nadar to come along as well.
So the three rangers set out, seeking answers to a question they did not even really know. Their travels led them far and wide, but not much could be found with so few clues and so little information to go by. Eventually, they called a halt to the pursuit, and they came to an agreement that the answers they were looking for might never be found. Kelnethar couldn’t bear the thought of making his brothers, for that is what they were to him, waste their entire lives in a vain pursuit. He decided then that he would give up on the quest so they could all move on with their lives.
From there, they moved on, seeking what fate they each had ahead of them. They had several adventures, and roamed far and wide in their adventures. Eventually, each went their separate way, but still they found time to get together and share long tales of their exploits.
Recently, Kelnethar learned that Khell had ventured into Rawlinswood in Narfell, and that Nadar had also traveled there looking for him. Kelnethar sought them out, wanting a piece of the adventure they were surely embarking on. He arrived in Norwick, but could not locate either of the Darkwoods. In his searching, he came to learn that both had been slaughtered while trying to rid the woods of their goblin infestation. The dark thoughts of revenge built up inside Kelnethar, at the thought of losing his closest friends, and the decades of his repressed revenge overwhelmed him. He recklessly thundered into the wood, slaughtering goblins left and right and reveling in the bloodshed. He fell into a dark mood, bent on destroying every goblin he could find. He was consumed in his rage, and cared little for anything other than slicing the throats of those who took his comrades. His entire existence was that of revenge…for his slaughtered parents and his brothers. Eventually, his uncontrolled fury almost led to his demise as he was ambushed by a goblin horde. He was severely injured and well on his way to the next life when a kind adventurer rescued him and helped him to safety. As he recovered, he came to an eerie calm as he finally accepted the deaths of those he lost. But in that acceptance, he also made a vow to himself to dedicate his life to helping the innocents of the world and stopping the evils, so that, perhaps, some people would not have to feel the harsh pain he had dealt with.
He now spends his time in Rawlinswood, working to save the goodly people and stop the evil menace.
