Character Name: Scorpius DabbleScorpius writes in a blank book he found in the possessions Draco left behind in Jiyyd when he was banned. The title is Scratched out, but "Memoirs of" is still legible, though the rest isn't
I am Scorpius Dabble, son of Daedalus and Verna Dabble, born seventeen winters past as of three months ago. I am a mage… People call me a sorcerer, although I am unsure as to what difference there is between a sorcerer and a wizard. I came to this area to live with my Uncle, Draco Dabble. I have my reasons, which will remain my own for now, however I wanted to share something about myself with whomever reads this book.
I guess the entire thing started when I was a child... Seeing my fifth winter. This wasn't the year I began to develop my magics, that wasn't until a number of years later... No, this was the year my father left, leaving me in the care of my mother and my older sister. He went off to find Draco... His brother was always the most important thing to him, though he hadn't seen him since The accident with the undead and the hair-color spell many years before; a story I'd love to tell... if it were my place to. Anyways, he left us on a former bastion of undead strength... They had all been disenchanted since my grandparents died, but that didn't stop those living nearby (and I use nearby liberally here, the closest home was about 10 miles from us) from having a grude against the estate... and therefore, us. So they came... they came when they found out that my father, who had protected the estate for nearly fifteen years, had left. They came when they knew the estate was vulnerable. They came with their spells, with their swords... in the name of Mystra, they said. In the name of Kelemvor, the name of this and that and whatever gods. My mother prayed to Yondalla. My sister to Oghma... and me, mimicking my father as best I could... I prayed to Azuth. We escaped with our lives, but barely. We lived in a village in the valley of Shadowdale, practically within the shadow of Elminster's home itself. I spoke with him once, just before I left for Narfell, but that's a story for another time.
Skip ahead five years. My father returns, bearing news that his brother is alive and well, and has settled in a desolate land known as Narfell, a land of Barbarian tribes and bandits, of gypsies and goblins. He spreads the word of Arvoreen, he said... He began praying to Arvoreen, not every night... but often. Praying that he continue to look over his brother. He regained control of the estate, but my mother refused to go back. She asks him to sell the land, but he refuses... He had lived there his entire life, he didn't want to get rid of it like that.
Skip ahead again, three years this time. I'm thirteen. The first tinge of my magics becomes apparent when my hair becomes the color of my fathers gradually, part of my growing up process, part of that most confusing part of life called puberty.
Two years later (I'm fifteen now), I cast my first spell, by sneezing. I shot a magic missile right out of my nose. imagine my mother's surprise when you're sitting at the kitchen table and suddenly BOOM! there's a great big mess of what was once mushroom salad all over the dining room. I spent weeks cleaning it up, mostly because from that day on my father trained me in The Art.
Barely a year later, I finally finished my training, or my "Taming" as I had taken to calling it. My father places three tattoos magically on my body. The first, placed upon my chest, is the family crest, designed by my father and uncle nearly eleven years before... It depicts two suns coming up from behind a waning crescent moon, signifying my family's escape from behind the shadow of necromancy which had bound my family for generations. The second and third, one on each upper arm, depict spellfire, pure magic energy, which I harness for my spells, even if in a limited fashion. He tells me to choose one place I wish to live... I said I wanted to meet my uncle, to live with him for a while. So I did.
~the page is signed Scorpius Dabble, with the word Sorcerer written three times in script... once in Common, once in Hin, and once in Draconic.~
