Moriato Wordsmith

  • I apologize ahead of time, I've never been much of a writer. I hope this isn't too difficult to get through

    Character: Moriato Wordsmith
    Account: Veleth

Moriato originally hails from Rhyshire, a small village in the Great Dale, south of Narfell. His family were farmers, as everyone in the village was, and also the historians for the village. He lived there from birth, until his early twenties, all the while feeling conflicted about his home, and lifestyle. On one hand, he relished the remoteness of the village, and the wilderness surrounding it. On the other he longed to leave the place of his birth behind, to wander and see the lands of the world. In his 22nd year, the decision was made for him.

Since childhood he had often gone to visit a small clearing in the woods a short distance north of his home. He had always found the glade soothing, and had come to think of it as his. This visit, though, would be different. No more than an hour after he arrived, he heard the noise of a large animal passing through the woods nearby, and caught a glimpse of dappled fur through the trees. Intrigued, and too curious for his own good, he decided to follow the beast. He trailed it for nearly 30 minutes, before losing the trail, but discovering a small cave, no more than a few feet high. Inside he discovered two small leopard cubs. He had a moment to marvel at their beauty, and another moment to realise the potential danger he was in before he heard the crash of brush behind him. He ran as fast as he could, but his speed was no match for the leopardess, who caught him in short time. With no time to even strike back, he was grievously injured with a bite to the throat, and a claw wound to the gut. The leopardess, having already fed, and confident that the threat to her cubs was ended, bounded away, as Moriato's vision darkened, and he bled out into the soil.

Moriato awoke where he had slipped away, face down on the forest floor, the ground soaked in his own blood, the scent of new life filling his nostrils, his hands clutching rich earth, but somewhat less than deceased. This marvel was explained when he looked up, upon what he thought at the time was the face of a goddess. Instead she introduced herself as Prrasha Softpaw, no goddess he had ever heard of. She explained that she had healed him, but only slightly, and that he would need to be strong to survive any further. After that he slipped away again, and his next memories are of recuperating in a small hut, under Prrasha's minimal care. She kept him fed, and warm, but would not heal him further with her magic, explaining her life as a druid, and demanding that he be worthy to survive on his own. She was the one to give him the surname Wordsmith, a jest at how very little he spoke during his recovery. Still, he keeps it to this day as a memento of her.

Moriato's path as a druid was decided during those nightly talks with Prrasha, and after his recovery was complete he asked her to train him in her ways. She only laughed, and told him that he had already set out on the druid's path, she saw it in him, and it was what prompted her to give what aid she did in the first place. What did he think she was doing all these nights explaining her druid's life to him? Conflicted as he was about her, he had to admit she was right, and she likely did save his life. She also told him that now that he was recovered, he must leave, just as the leopardess' cubs that he had met had now left their mother's side, to make their own life.

He stopped in his home village only to collect a few belongings, and show his parents and former friends that he had not perished in the woods, that they would not grieve him needlessly. He chose north as the first direction he should wander, and has eventually come upon the town of Norwick, where he hopes to hone his skills as a druid, and help both the town and land around it, from the blights it has seen in recent years.
