OOC Contest

  • @39a5fb20e1=sciolist:

Auto-spawned traps do provide some interest to exploring without a DM watching though. that's rather lacking in Narfell at the moment, in my opinion.

I second that. Traps are cool. 😄

Exploding traps that do 100+ HP of damage, however, are less cool.

  • Do I need a special script for the doors? If so, then I will send the whole thing to you once I've finished eveything on my part.

  • I didn't place any traps in there, because I am sure that the DM will want to put some of his own in there if he uses them and runs events in them. If he wants me to put some in before I finish the levels, I can do that, but I know that locked doors and traps and such are what DMs place in an area before an event as well as monsters, so I didn't put any of that in.

  • If your putting traps in and want them respawning, run the maps by me. I've got some scripts for that purpose that I've written for implementation in some other area's that I can probably place in, as well as set the Narfell scripts for doors and things.

  • Traps! crypts need traps!

  • The first two levels are done and I will send them to you… woot for not having a life!

  • I will have the 1st and 2nd levels done by about 12:30. I will send those to you, and you can tell me what you think. I have planned it to be about 3 levels, but if you want more, I can do that. I am just finishing some details and stuff for the 2nd level and fixing a few stupid things, but the first two levels will be ready in about an hour. You will, however, have to add the transition to and from the door down to the first level when you add them in.

  • Thanks, I'll take a look when I get the chance.

  • I finally, after many hours, fixed many of the problems I was having earlier, including intense scripting such as: how to make the NPCs talk and such. I have some more to clean up, and then another level or two to add, but in the end I think it is going to be pretty good. Kuker, I will send you the Crypt as soon as I finish it!

  • Ok, so whether or not the contest is still going on, I am working on and am finishing up, the first level of a Crypt type thing, like you said. I went in to play, I find that all of the corpses have random items and that anywhere you place bones, a skeleton warrior appears, so that is a pain in the ass. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Also, I am having a little bit of trouble with getting the conversation screens to pop up. Does anyone know what scripts to use etc in order to make the conversation screen appear when you click on people? Write back or PM me on Narfell, or PM Senria Rydralon in game.

  • Are you still looking for submissions? If so, I will see what I can come up with.

  • What are you looking for in crypts?

  • Bump, looking for Crypts. Submit, submit submit.

  • It could be either. I'll take a look at what is submitted and see if I want to use it.

  • Good Point. What was I thinking  this will probably be an interior area, not exterior.

  • To build the crypt do you just construct the map or do you have to put scripts in?
I don't know a thing about scripting or anything complicated, but I am pretty sure I can point and click and cobble together an area.

  • The majority of exterior areas are 1616 in order to fit in with grid. Interior areas can be any size ranging from 22 to 16*16.

As has been mentioned before, interiors are best kept as small as possible though. Bare in mind that each tile represents 10meters x 10meters; which is a pretty large room.

  • @9f167dd1b8=ZANETAR:

The toolset is very misleading in its portrayal of area sizes; they always seem twice as big once you look at it with the DM or player client.

Yes, definately. Just a 2x2 area seems HUGE in the player client compared with the toolset.

I also understand that all exterior areas on Narf are 16x16….Though dont hold me to that...

  • Interior areas don't really matter where size is concerned; I generally just try to make them as small as possible without discluding anything I want to include. The toolset is very misleading in its portrayal of area sizes; they always seem twice as big once you look at it with the DM or player client. A good way to keep track of size is just to toss one human NPC in your area to provide some spatial comparison.

Only exterior areas have standard sizes. I believe it's 12x12. 16x16?
