It was long since the day when the village was burned and the monks of my Order were slain by assassins for hire. I was only an initiate of the said Order at the time. I remember the cold gaze of the men dressed in black. They would sneak up silently behind the best of monks and thrust their exotic thin weapons into them. More than once it was not enough to kill the monks as they were too good for such a meager assassination.

However there was something different about these men and women. Their weapons not only attacked the vital points of our warriors, but so too made their bodies numb. Sure enough they pillaged and attacked the innocent. It was a massacre. A rain of blood where my Teacher gave his life to save me… a simple initiate.

"Go now... to Jiyyd in the land of Narfell," he said, "Live a simple life of a peasant by day. You may never unmask this attack, but you must continue your training. Continue your training so that one day you may be able to unmask our attackers and avenge the village. At dawn, a dye merchant should arrive. Go with him and he should pass through Narfell. When you reach Jiyyd, get off his wagon and settle there. Good-bye Eskay... my young initiate. Your potential is unmatched by any student I've ever trained..." Such were the last words of Rubeus, my master.

Sure enough merchant caravan selling armor and clothing dyes came passing through. And thus I jumped on. About a week passed before we arrived at Jiyyd. He supplied a supposed "Legion," and recommended if I ever become a skilled fighter that I should join them...

Until then, I live here in Jiyyd as a peasant with no last name, no knowledge of any particular family, and no master. Rubeus raised me as his own, guiding me with his philosophy. To me, he will always be the only one I would call my father...
