The frozen landscape

  • _Out across the distance of the town and through it's narrow streets, an icey chill began to form on the air and the temperature drops. At first, people put it down to nothing but a cold day and go about their business. The temperature continues to drop…and still people put it off to a 'really cold day'...until people begin to freeze and slowly trickle into the nearby Regal whore inn...Still the temperature drops..

Beginning to grow worried, some of the occupants of the town start to trickle into the nearby inn for protection from the chilling cold, where several near fights almost break out and then die down as quickly as they almost began. Roaring laughter and old friends meet, ale is drunk and the town is for all intents and purposes unaware of the dangers....and still the temperature drops and more people rush into the tavern as Jiyyd is soon overtaken by freezing temperatures..

And still the frigid storm increases..

Half a candlemark ( 30 minutes) passes and the majority of the town piles into the local inn to seek shelter from the cold while a few incredibly stubborn and, as recorded by some of the townsfolk to be 'insane for goin out in that weather!'. The storm continues to rage while more and more 'adventurers' in the inn depart to find out what the ruckas is about...in the Distance..

A frozen shrine to the Ice queen, Auril. Defiant, those of the town stand firm to the freedom they enjoy while others offer prayer to Auril at the bloodied shrine. Plan after plan is formed...and soon after, A cleric of the elven gods is seen drawing heavenly fire down upon the blood sacrificed altar. Witnessness to the sight avidly claim that the altar presented defenses against the attempted cleansing...while combined with the howling wind and the raging snow storm....many were forced to flee before they froze to death.

All the while, the cold wind raged...and a few offered prayer to the shrine, trying to convince others of the path to end this raging storm. Still they stood.

    Defiant.

They would not be cowed into bowing as continued divine assaults were made against the altar itself to little effect...at the peak of the storm, a desperate plan was formed and a ritual to the Seldarine was prepared and then executed before the problems of the storm grew any worse. At least one person was killed due to the cold and it's rumoured by those who took to offering prayer to Auril that this sacrifice saved the town....while others will vehemetly defend that invoking the seldarine prevented any more death and lifted the storm.

Whether either are true remains to be seen is for sages to argue, the effects however are very real...all of the crops in the local fields were destroyed by the ravaging storm. Jiyyd is said to have enough food to last for now, but locals are still worrying about the coming winter...while Lady Arien of Peltarch and Lady Kara of Jiyyd talked of bringing down supplies via the seafarer's guild in Peltarch to compensate for the lack of a harvest this year.

Those that offered worship to Auril during the period of uncertainty in the storm were, as per the laws of the town, asked to leave and not return, including Lady Aspera Chillwind and Keira of Norwick.

In the wake of the storm, the commoners of Jiyyd return to repairing their lives._
