A Fallen Empire - A campfire chat

  • tala sits by the camps fires mulling as she works oil into her leathers, looking up to those there she enquires

Do any of you know anything about a fallen empire that was here in ages past?

I was told it predates the war with Shar and Mystra and that little is know about it. The King seems interested in this time period. He spoke of looking for information on it.

purses her lips as if considering saying more and then looks to her leathers listening to the conversation it causes with interest

  • Leaning up against a tree and idly shuffling his omnipresent deck of cards, Ty furrows his brow and chews on his bottom lips when Tala asks her question. Glancing up, the fires reflecting and dancing in his eyes, he considers his words for a few minutes before opening his mouth.

"There was an empire . . . Indeed." He cuts the cards and riffles them a few times, looking down and concentrating on the actions. "That's obvious, honestly—all you have to do is look 'round at all the ancient ruins. I've heard of a city buried deep in the Rawlins that hails back to that period." Tyche frowns, wearing a nuetral expression; he shuffles his cards very slowly.

"What I know is that it was a vast empire that covered most of the northeast, and it fell . . . Over a thousand years ago." Ty smirks his gambler's smirk and pops his neck, twisting it to the side. "Old, fallen empires on Toril? Never. Anyway . . . " He shifts his sitting position, pulling one leg under the other.

"The Nars Empire worshipped demons—dealt with them, made pacts with them, and their clerics drew power from them. Nasty practice, really—Never deal with demons." Ty laughs darkly in the back of his throat, curling his lips back and smiling toothedly, the light of the fire catching the edges of his incisors. "As all evil things go, it ate itself out from the inside and crumbled. Demons . . . Aren't to be trusted for power: too chaotic."

Ty tilts his head to the side and closes his eyes halfway, riffling through the deck of cards and thumbing the Jack of Hearts out. He holds it up and turns it over, examining it. "There's always been reported high demon activity in Narfell, and that's why: the old Empire. Couldn't tell you anything more specific, but I know people who can." _He flicks his wrist and vanishes the Jack, then bridges his cards and shuffles them before sliding them into an inside, shirt pocket.

Rummaging around for a moment in his pack by his side, Ty removes a bottle of half-finished Romani wine and uncorks it, listening distantly._

  • tala looks to Jerr before he leaves

Perhaps we could go talk to the king sometime Jerr. I am sure he would be interested in your insights.

  • Yuna comes wandering out of the inner camp after yet another fall out of her tree house. She listens of the fallen Empire and a war and tilts her head

Yuna no knows anyfings of empires or ofs dats wars buts ifs finds anyfings outs will tells

runs out of the camp for a run of the nars before bed time

  • Jerr hears of this conversation and looks . . . worried.

"Digging into the past can have the benefit of learning from past mistakes. But some mistakes are best left buried . . .deeply buried."

He wishes that the chief was in his right mind

"There are reasons for our ways and traditions . . . why we favour the open and dislike the caves . . . but there is more, so much more . . . "

he falls back into silent contemplation, fretting about what should be brought back to light and what is better left buried. In the end he searches out his wife and they spend a lot of the night discussing things.

  • Nearby Tala, Arandor cooks some falcons over the fire, skewering them on sticks an propping them up against the stones to cook over the flames.

"I don't know much… Just that long, long ago there was an empire like you say. They were thought to be an empire of demon-binders from what I've learned. Their fall is somewhat of a mystery."

He goes silent after speaking and turns the falcons over to ensure they cook evenly after a time…
