-
Character: Ivellios Starmist
Login Name: JonNwNThis tall elf gives you no more notice than a quick glance from beneath his hood. Clothed in black from head to toe, he makes an odd apperance for an elf. His clothing seems barely to move when he walks, and even when he is not trying he walks with a deadly quiet and a grace not unlike that of a hunting panther.
About both of his sides are scimitars sheathed in black scaabards, the handles wrapped in black, over his shoulder is a quiver full of black arrows and a black bow. Across his chest is a black bandolier with many pouches whose contents are unkown.
((DC 20 INT CHECK to know the following))
From his garb and dark nature this elf is oviously a member of the Deamir'naylessein, the Night Watch of Shentarshadeen. The Night Watch is an elite group of rangers from this ancient city who, for various reasons, have sworn their lives to the hunt of the undead.
What one would be doing so far from his ancient homeland is unknown…... The Flame of The Night
(The founding of Shentarshadeen and the Night Watch)
Thousands of years ago, a wizard of great power, Ivellios Starmist, traveled Faerun and gaind power that rivaled even that of Elmiminister. In his travels Ivellios learned many things and saw much suffering in the world so he bent his will towards creating a hidden and beautiful city where peace and happiness would be known, and suffering almost non-existent. He would make the city a bastion of hope for his race, a beautiful elven city to rival all others.
Ivellios laboured for many years, using his powerful magics to create a city of great splendor and many elves came to dwell in the city he called Shentarshadeen, the City of Bliss.
For many years, the elves of the City lived in peace. Ivellios came to marry a woman by the name of Iluriel and gave birth to a son, Ivellios, who grew to be a healthy young man. It is now tradition to name all males of the Starmist family line Ivellios.
Little did the citizens of the fair City know, a great power had awoken in the mountain forest that Ivellios had protectively cradeled the city within, it had been awakened by the power which Ivellios had used to forge Shentarshadeen. This power had an name, its name was Balthazaar.
Balthazaar was a powerful lich, who had been driven into hiding hundreds of years before the City's founding, and had been all but forgotten in his mountain tomb. He know saw an opportunity to strike out at the mortal world, and throught attacking Ivellios, gain great power.
So for years the lich bided his time, sending subtle signals, tendrils of mist and death through the world, calling countless undead to his cause, waiting for the time to strike the city of Shentarshadeed. After some tweny years, his plan finnaly came to fruitition.
Balthazaar struck the City a night, while it was sleeping.
Within the first few minutes of the midnight hours, undead swarmed into the city, pulling many elves from their beds, disembowling them and eating the flesh of the still living citizens. They spread fire and havoc through the city. It seemed as if Balthazaar's horde had won the city.
Quickly rosed from his sleep, Ivellios rallied the guard of his great city and faught back. The battle raged for many days, but finnaly, on the midnight hour of the fourth day, the horde was turned back, but at the lives of many of Shentarshaaden's citizens.
That day, Ivellios again summoned the same power used to bring about the city and built the Wall to portect it, a giant wall of shimmering ice and energies, to keep back the hordes of Balthazaar.
Then when he had finished the Wall, on the midnidght hour he formed the Deamir'naylessien. The Night Watch of Shentarshadeen. It was the Watch's duty to forever be the "Flame of the Night" that would keep Balthazar from ever again over running the city. So it became the greatest of honours to become a Night's Watchmen.Ivellios of the Night Watch
(The coming of Ivellios Starmist into the Night Watch, and his fleeing from Shentarshadeen)
_"I swear here before,
The eyes of Gods and Elves,
To take the Black,
And forever man my Post,
On the Wall of this fair City
In Life and Death, I shall defend,
So for all of Eternity shall my Soul remain,
And forever man the Wall,
So here upon this midnight hour I swear,
Before the eyes of Gods and Elves,
To forver be,
The Flame of the Night."- The Vow of the Deamir'naylessien_ A thousand years after the Night Watch was founded, Ivellios Starmist, the fifth of his name was born into the Starmist family. His father was the head of the Night Watch, and so, for his entire life, he was trained in the ways of the ranger, and how to kill the undead in the most effective way possible, he was made into and instrument of death. Finnaly, on his one-hundred and twentith birth day he was admittided to the Night Watch.
He said the vow on the midnight hour of his birthday and donned the black of the Night Watch and, that night, took his first Watch upon the Wall beside his father.
For many years Ivellios was happier than he had ever been while manning the Wall. The horde of Balthazaar had not attacked in many years, and he had fallen in love.
Her name was Annistranna Moonwhisper. She had been accepted into the Watch a year after he, and was assinged to the forward scouting group of which he had command. She was fiery and stubborn, and was slim and unreally graceful, even for an elf, she had long flowing waves of silver hair, and eyes the color of molten gold.
After some years of courting her, he finnaly won her love. The two were wed beneath a large oak where the Vow of the Watch was taken. The next year his wife gave birth to his son, Ivellios.
Full of pent up excitment at the news of his son's birth that night, Ivellios waited impaitiently for his Watch to finish.
Then he spotted them.
Hundreds of lights flared in the distance and a hail of crude arrows rained upon the Wall. His comrades fell around him like flies, arrows sticking from their chests and their blood staining the Wall in patches like rubies, the life flowing from their eyes.
Ivellios hurriedly began firing into the crowd of undead rapidly advancing toward the Wall, he was shot in the leg, but continued to fire relentlessly. Blood coursed from the wound in rivulets, blossoming into a red flower upon his uniform, and sunddenly , fire covered arrowns began to fly over the Wall into the City, lighting it aflame. The screams of its citizens filled the night. He and his forward group were ordered off the Wall to evacuate the citizens into the woods. He quickly rushed off the Wall to follow the orders.
He quickly became lost in the screams and fire and confusion, but somehow managed to escort people from the City, dodging the bodies of comrades as they fell off the Wall, arrows piercing their chest, and fear and pain etched upon their faces, as their blood stained the winter's snow the dark color of rust.
The battle raged for days, and eventually the City was overrrun, Ivellios, while evacuating the City on the final day, discovered the body of his wife and son brutally slain, the blood of their bodies mingling in the rust colored snow, by the undead who where taking the city.
The hot steam and salt of tears mixed with the blood on his face and in his mouth, but he turned from his loves body and trudged on, determined to complete his duty.
He somehow managed to escape the city with his life, but the memories of what had happened that day have never left him. He found only shortly later the people of the City he had saved, were only killed later by the undead horde.
His soul left him that day, as did all love. It has never returned to him, leaving him a shell devouted to a single duty.
The Mind of a Lost Soul
(Ivellios's Personality) To this day, the memories of the attack and destrution of his homeland still haunt him, and he suffers from constent flashbacks in which his mind vividly re-lives that day. He is often heard humming the song that his wife taught him while they where on their first forward scouting misson together. His rest is constently haunted by his memories and he is loath to rest, but seems to find some ease of mind in the woods.
He has become decidedly unnatched to others for fear of again finding love, only to lose it again. Few know of the memories that haunt him, and those who do are disturbed by his accurate discription of the events.
Dispite his coldness, he is a trustworthy and loyal companion, who will not betray those who somehow manage to befriend him.
He does however seem to fling friendship to the wind in the face of the opportunity to hunt undead, his single minded obsession with his duty is almost scary.
Ivellios has traveled to Norwick on rumor of an undead area nearby and hopes to someday clear it. After gaing more skill he wishes to return to his destroyed homeland and cleanse it of the horrid undead that have taken its great walls and to give the bodies of his fallen love and kin their proper rites. He also has hopes of re-establishing the Night Watch. Untill that day, he hones his blades. Waiting, perhaps, for his soul to return.
Until that day, his soul shall forever be lost in the horror of his past.
" I was born of the Night and shall die in the Shadow of the Night. But I shall forever and always be the "Flame of the Night"
