Jiyyd Rumors

  • _In the midst of all of this work, Dwin leads 2 Rothe-pulled carts, piled high with something under oilskin tarps, directly into the front door of his farmhouse (carefully avoiding the pits and workers along the way).

After several hours he emerges, now riding in one of the carts with a discernable, sad look on his face.

He tosses a gold coin into his corn fields (possibly an homage to a certain Dwarven God?) and continues back to Jiyyd._

  • *Citizens around Jiyyd note that while things are 'on the rise' west of town, with walls and cliffs popping up everywhere, that to the east, things are going down.

Massive holes are being dug, around the existing farms and fields, and especially along and on the road east. Wagons are carting the earth away west as fast as the massive earth elementals can dig it, and a tiny gnomish fellow is using string and some kind of looking glass on legs to carefully keep the sides of the pits straight. The holes seem to be chaotically, unpredictatbly placed, a hodgepodge of wide chasms reinforced with long logs with steeply slanting sides.

Farmers look aghast, looking off their properties down into deep pits. Some complain loudly to council members about their rights to bear wheat, and gripe that their chickens and pigs are falling in and getting hopelessly stuck in the deep earthen troughs. One farmer desperately runs to shoo away his ducklings, who are are in constant peril of squashing as they constantly waddle too close to one of the mighty elementals massive stoney feet.

Some more prudent familes are seen to start packing as if for long trips, boarding up windows, and laying giant-proofing charms, herbs and home remedies on the roofs of their homes.

One large barn roof has bright red letters painted on it, facing east, in a strange language. Those fluent in gianteese would recognize the following words, written in blocky, 8 foot letters …"Nothing tasty in here, Giant go home!"*

  • _"Workers, with the aid of earth elementals, quickly repair the damaged wall. As they work, orcish catapults begin pounding the area with big rocks.

General Grag and a small group of strong defenders rise to the challenge, rushing out with speed and determination, destroying the artillery and small accompanying force, and then beating a hasty retreat back to the defenses, before a large response can be made.

Soon, the defense is once more intact, and new stones are set into place, thickening the walls and it is clear the Western Defensive Plan is coming together, despite the recent skirmishes threatening to damage it."_

  • _A swift and staggering blow is dealt to Jiyyd's defensive effort as, late in the night, the sound of beating wings is heard over the long road. Blasts of icy breath rain down and in moments a long stretch of the partially completed defensive wall is reduced to ruins. Also ruined is the moral of many of those that aided in its construction only to see toppled so effortlessly.

Fierce orcs spill through the gap, attacking the builders mercilessly on the other side.

After several hours of fighting the attacks stop just as quickly as they began, leaving the name 'Sharn' engraved into the minds of all those that witnessed first hand the destruction he wrought._

  • _Splitting time with the Western defenses, Engineer Sudoc and the overworked Legion monsters… er...,_mages _can be seen headed out to the East Road as well, accompanied by Legionnaires with shovels and wagonloads of lumber, under the direction of Sergeant William of the Legion. A couple of wagons covered with canvas tarps head east as well.

The wagons return in a steady stream, loaded with dirt for the earthworks on the west side of town, though it is anyone's guess as to where the earth is coming from, or where all the wood is going, since when the workers leave each day, the East Road looks much as it did before._

  • Dwin offers to assist with the cow-launchers since the Union built and stored them for the last Orc war. he also recommends that the old ones be dismantled as they are now decades old and probably not fit for battle.

  • Sudoc has been seen grinning ear from ear at all the new siege equipment,. He has also been directing the repairs of the old siege weaponry.

  • _"Activity the likes of which have never before been seen continues around Jiyyd, much of it quite unfathomable to the common farmer.

Workers sit near the legion hall repairing a trio of damaged catapults, greasing axles and adding new ropes. Two catapults in good repair are quietly wheeled back away from the southern wall, to the rear side of the stone legion hall.

The third catapult, after have sat in readyness for years atop the hill near the bat cave, is rolled well back off the hill, where it is pegged to the ramp on the far side, which seems strange to some locals, as it cant be fired from there.

Recently, really big wagons have been seen rolling through town, pulled by large teams of oxen. On these wagons are massive single boulders, some 8 feet tall, which are then wheeled out of town towards the defenses.

Children returning from following the wagons are quizzed by locals, and it seems Umber hulks are setting the massive rocks on the edges of the plains facing new hills…purposes unknown.

A crew of dirty dwarvish workes bearing shovels and pickaxes march off east, instead of west.

The shiny plate clad General Lyte leads a score or more of....old ladies....with.....sewing equipment...into a nearby field, where they sit down to begin sewing what looks to be all the world like big, grass green blankets or picnic ground coverings maybe.

Many locals simply shake their heads, wondering what the beetle blue blazes is going on around Jiyyd these days.]/i]_

RUmors of genral grag and a few other men going east to battle giants became true once their party was seen running like little school girls tot he healing wonders talking about giants ambushing them….

On another note General Grag is seen often hobnobbing with the peltarch and gypsy camp soldiers…

  • Prior to Grag's expedition with another party - General Lyte, Major Uchi, Corporal Calendel and Private Laucian took a patrol East to check on the blockage at the Worg cave and make sure it was still intact. During this patrol they were pushed back to Jiyyd by several large Frost Giants, some beserking and hitting very hard! The party managed to down two of them as well and seriously injure two others before having to back down and return to the safety of Jiyyd.

Unfortunately this party was unable to locate General Grag and alert him to the danger in time….

  • _A small patrol consisting of Grag, Sywyn, Wolf, Dentias, and Seth went out toward the east road. Only a few minutes later, battle shouts, lightning, and thunderous footsteps were heard to the east. Several giants ambushed the group and caused great harm to them. But the group was quick on their feet and managed to down some of the giants, until one of the giant casters chased the group off.

None fell to the giant's ambush, though they returned battered and bruised, covered in much of their own blood._

  • Rumour has it Lily's turned in her citizen papers and moved to Peltarch

A large group of many Guardians and several others traversed the dangers of the cold caves to bring iron ore to be made into steel to help strengthen the town gates. The iron was left at the Legion Hall for further work

  • Moments later, Thersos left the jail and started hunting for the cat, without much success. After visiting Vroka and receiving a special blessing, he managed to quickly find the cat. The end result being a panther suffering from a javelin wound, before managing to shake the masked avenger.

  • A bit of a disturbance in Jiyyd today. Apparantly a panther took a swipe at Justene and the young chessentan, Thersos, and then ran off and dissapeared. The mage Alba, present at the scene, argued to the guard that the "magical panther" was her "friend" and that it was trying to "shake hands". After Justene trying to arrest her, she dissapeared, leading to a chase around the town, though the girl finally reappeared and was persuaded to come to the jail cell, much due to the lizardin Steelfin who had arrived.

  • Zoma can be seen recently with his face heavily bandaged and walking about in an unsteady manner. When inquired what happened by the concerned folks in Jiyyd, the one eyed man simply replied that he was involved in a duel with an orc at the south plains and insists that it is simply a flesh wound, with an additional lost of an ear.

"…To be fair, I robbed his nose in exchange for my left ear. I have no regrets."

  • A little Gnome carrying a warhammer has been seen running around Jiyyd and its surroundings, speaking with legionnaires, writing stuff down, taking measurements and whatnot. The legionnaires can often be heard calling the gnome "Engineer Sudoc."

  • On occasion, Jeremy can be seen watching all the legion folk bustle around with a small smirk. No one knows what has sparked his interest in it all, but he can be seen there watching them for up to an hour, afterwards leaving the small town via the west gate.

  • *Lyte, guarding the western gate from her usual spot, can be seen welcoming Zoma into town, in a pleasant fashion, and offering to help him with his things.

Townsfolk continue to see a very, very active Legion presence around the town, with still more work partys carrying ore and wood into the hall, and still more legion soldiers coming out looking tired and covered with wood chips.

Some villagers joke that this must be a new, less expensive barkskin armor, the legion troops are wearing.

Legion soldiers accompanied by a small engineer are seen out on the road near the farmlands east of town taking measurements. There's considerable activity near the old well, which hasnt been a source of decent water in many years. Following the pounding sounds coming from the vicinity of the legion hall, one is led to the sight of soldiers in carpenter attire, working on repairing and find tuning a number of catapults.

Great numbers of legion scouting patrols continue to patrol east of town in especially heavy gear, while lightly armored, stealthier looking units patrol out south, onto the plains.

The talk around town is of war, war, war, and some villagers are begining to follow through on long planned holidays and such as lengthy visits to old Aunt Gertwert in the camp, and many neglected relatives seem to be suddenly remembered fondly with extensive plans for longish vacations to see them.

Some large posters go up around town, recruiting for a volunteer citizen fire extinguishing department. The notice indicates that if a dozen town volunteers, (who are not fit for combat duty, but would like to help),can be found, the Legion will be glad to contribute the funds to equip them with fire fighting gear, to aid the town. The poster mentions to inquire with General Grag, Lyte, or Theaon, if interested.*

  • Corporal Calendel of the Troff Legion has been seen taking measurements and notes deep in the Rat and Bat Cave near the well. Rumors are that with the recent Gnome attacks from the cave the Legion is considering preventing enemies from coming through the well or the deeper cave in the event of a breakout of War on the town.

A local is heard saying, What if a miner goes working in the cave, will it still be safe for locals to use the cave to mine ore for thier homes?

Another responds Don't be silly, I'm sure they'll put up a warning or something….

I heard that they may set traps in the deepest parts of the cave, sounds like a good deterent to me! comments a nearby farmer plucking a chicken.
