Jiyyd Rumors

  • Zoma can be seen recently with his face heavily bandaged and walking about in an unsteady manner. When inquired what happened by the concerned folks in Jiyyd, the one eyed man simply replied that he was involved in a duel with an orc at the south plains and insists that it is simply a flesh wound, with an additional lost of an ear.

"…To be fair, I robbed his nose in exchange for my left ear. I have no regrets."

  • A little Gnome carrying a warhammer has been seen running around Jiyyd and its surroundings, speaking with legionnaires, writing stuff down, taking measurements and whatnot. The legionnaires can often be heard calling the gnome "Engineer Sudoc."

  • On occasion, Jeremy can be seen watching all the legion folk bustle around with a small smirk. No one knows what has sparked his interest in it all, but he can be seen there watching them for up to an hour, afterwards leaving the small town via the west gate.

  • *Lyte, guarding the western gate from her usual spot, can be seen welcoming Zoma into town, in a pleasant fashion, and offering to help him with his things.

Townsfolk continue to see a very, very active Legion presence around the town, with still more work partys carrying ore and wood into the hall, and still more legion soldiers coming out looking tired and covered with wood chips.

Some villagers joke that this must be a new, less expensive barkskin armor, the legion troops are wearing.

Legion soldiers accompanied by a small engineer are seen out on the road near the farmlands east of town taking measurements. There's considerable activity near the old well, which hasnt been a source of decent water in many years. Following the pounding sounds coming from the vicinity of the legion hall, one is led to the sight of soldiers in carpenter attire, working on repairing and find tuning a number of catapults.

Great numbers of legion scouting patrols continue to patrol east of town in especially heavy gear, while lightly armored, stealthier looking units patrol out south, onto the plains.

The talk around town is of war, war, war, and some villagers are begining to follow through on long planned holidays and such as lengthy visits to old Aunt Gertwert in the camp, and many neglected relatives seem to be suddenly remembered fondly with extensive plans for longish vacations to see them.

Some large posters go up around town, recruiting for a volunteer citizen fire extinguishing department. The notice indicates that if a dozen town volunteers, (who are not fit for combat duty, but would like to help),can be found, the Legion will be glad to contribute the funds to equip them with fire fighting gear, to aid the town. The poster mentions to inquire with General Grag, Lyte, or Theaon, if interested.*

  • Corporal Calendel of the Troff Legion has been seen taking measurements and notes deep in the Rat and Bat Cave near the well. Rumors are that with the recent Gnome attacks from the cave the Legion is considering preventing enemies from coming through the well or the deeper cave in the event of a breakout of War on the town.

A local is heard saying, What if a miner goes working in the cave, will it still be safe for locals to use the cave to mine ore for thier homes?

Another responds Don't be silly, I'm sure they'll put up a warning or something….

I heard that they may set traps in the deepest parts of the cave, sounds like a good deterent to me! comments a nearby farmer plucking a chicken.

  • Zoma can be seen moving into Jiyyd with a wagon behind him full of daily necessities. When asked why is he lunging around his belongings, Zoma simply says he moved out. When asked again is it because his wife, Ragnhild, kicked him out of home, the one eyed swordsman simply shrugs.

"Regardless, I am now a citizen of Jiyyd and from now on, will commit in aiding the town's defences against the upcoming war. This place has always been my home even when I left for the camp, it still lives in my heart. I'm intending to see through that the town remains standing."

  • Several people, including a Legionnaire, Dwin, Ginger, Z, and Juster, went to the Cold Caves to gather metals for use in Jiyyd's defense.

They came back speaking of a goodly quantity of iron and nickel donated to the war effort, with more to be brought in by Dwin once it is smelted.

  • Injudicious and fearful rumors start to spring up regarding the dragon, and dark plans to offer it terms to leave the village alone. Some even speak of the older ways of Auril, and how Jiyyd's been saved from winter's grasp by live sacrifice before.

A cold wind from the east is prevailing as Midwinter approaches. Are things so bad that such things could be considered? Perhaps there'll be some small joy to be found at the Festival near Peltarch.

  • Despite trouble with drow, some people still seem to find it in them to celebrate. They even put up posters aksing others to come to a

  • ::Word is Jiyyd will be the place of an old event starting anew::

  • A brief and bloody battle with Driders and other horrific creatures happened near the crossroads in the dead of night. Some drow were present to observe, but they fled when a larger force was mounted against them.

Aelhaearn of the Norwick Scouts and Aghila of the Peltarch Far Scouts were slain and later raised by Vroka.

  • Sylvain has been spotted through Jiyyd and the Silver Valley, slowly chasing a little fox he was apparently trying to charm into being petted. Even though the young knight looked very charming in doing so, the fox was not too impressed.

Rumor has it Sylvain attempted to give the fox goldpieces for some reason, and the fox accepted them. Later, the fox ate a chicken, with Sylvain chasing the fox chasing the chicken, trying to stop it from doing so, making quite the humorous spectacle. When he failed and approached farmer Shantie to recompense her for the chicken, she was rumored to have been furious.

Not only did she refuse dinner, she also gave the young knight an egg, which he is rumored to have put into his pants, walking back to his home awkwardly, after which he returned walking normally again.

  • *Uchi is seen still taking mesurmens of the well for the cover. People passing by would notice the elf seems to be in a bad mood so works quietly and keeping to himself.

If asked what he is doign he explains bluntly that his building something to protect them and goes back to work.*

  • *Lots of legion movement is spotted around lately. Heavily armored patrols in groups of 5 and 6 soldiers patrol off towards the worg cave on a very regular basis.

General Lyte and Theoan are often seen in the company of various militant looking persons, some wearing Peltarch or Gypsy colors.

Major Uchi is seen make measurements at the old well, and doing some figuring on a leather bound notebook. The legion mages Genzir and Elridith seem to be discussing some spell in a cornfield, casting spells that make the corn turn into what looks like pine trees…and then back into corn again.

Most strange of all, a great many extremely weary looking legion soldiers seem to emerge from the legion hall looking weary and dirty, over a period of weeks and weeks, many of them with wood chips covering them from head to toe. When asked by townspeople about what sort of doings is going on in that hall, the soldiers talk in vague terms of whittling knick knacks or carving totem poles, or making birthday presents for their mothers.

    Some secret project is afoot!*

  • The Chancellor of Norwick makes several trips through town carrying crates from one of the farms to the east back west toward the crossroads by himself, presumably to Norwick. He keeps his head down and does his best to politely avoid conversation as he hauls the crates off.

  • A small hin notices Dwin tootin his horn and figures he'd get in to the action… He jumps around banging on a helm with a club drowning out the Dwarf (while keeping his distance) and calling out:

Leather goods for sale! 10% off as well! Ye need gloves for dem spears, talk to me! I have the best quality gloves, packs, slings, belts and boots ye can get! Enchantable items for that extra something special! Guaranteed cheaper than the Union cause I dunt have all the overhead costs! Come to the Silver Valley Craft Hall and leave a message or ask for Leaf Featherfoot!

The Hin then heads off into the crowd that had gathered due to the noise and begins holding small conversations apparently taking orders… shortly disappearing into the crowd.

//ooc Feel free to leave me a PM if you're interested in something and I'll look for you IG to complete the transaction//

_"Grak knew it! Huuuumie law was once again bypassed by some ridiculous excuse! Ya there, Hand over Grak's betting win of 50 coins!"

"Ya town-folk look around ya, those blood-thirsty villains and cold blooded killers walk among us even now. Those two shorties didnt even get a chance, they were like pincushions after that lynchmob had their way with em. Hmph, if only Grak and Graks club would been there, those shorties would be still among living. In chains and locked up, but alive."

"What's the point with that law-book, if these local cronies and constables are incapable to read nor act up to it?"_

  • Dwin stands on a bench and shouts

Dwin stands off to the side and prepares to take orders.

  • Old Master Scutum listens quietly to the gossip about hin arsonists while sitting cross-legged atop a bench by the cookpot. She lets out a tired sigh and remarks to nobody in particular:

"Seems like Miss Raver had the right o' it. I'd have thumped them fellas myself if I'd have seem em settin' the town on fire. It's just common sense, folks.

"The Valley is for good hinfolk what mean to stand against oppressin' hins what don't deserve it. Not to be a haven for hins what make us look bad by generatin' a misleadin' stereotype o' hin behavior."

In a blink, the right-sized monk scoots off the bench and out the west gate, not seeming to have been moving much but flying out of sight in no time all the same.

  • _Will stops, hearing the talk as he is headed for the Legion Hall

"Want to know what happened? Two hins, running about with torches, were asked to stop before they set something on fire. They stated they'd set fire to whatever they pleased, and then proceeded to do so."

"No militia were present - and Mec had gone to look for Just'ene and could not find her."

"Raver didn't shoot them when they set the crops on fire. She shot them after they set the armorer and weaponsmith's building on fire with the armorer and weaponsmith inside. I figure that's attempted murder on the part of those hins, besides arson."

"With no militia present, we could either let them burn down the town and kill a lot of people, or stop them."

    "We stopped them."

"Steelfin, Paladin of Tyr was a witness to all of that - you don't believe me, ask him."

"As to the punishment for saving the town - and yes there was one, though not a hanging - sometimes the law needs to bend to acknowledge Justice."

"Seems to me, maybe Jiyyd needs to think about some laws on what non-militia are allowed to do in defense of someone's life…"

"...else someone could come in and start killing folk outright, and with no militia present, there's nothing_ legal anyone else could do to stop them."
