Character Name: Pendras
Pendras grew up among a small moon-elven community in a secluded grove to the west of Damara. His was a childhood of joy and happiness, of dancing under the intoxicating light of the moon with his friends and the finest things life had to offer; wine, love, and kin. At 85 years of age he wed a daughter of one of the Elders; Vasa daughter of Bardom. They had grown up together as childhood friends and as they matured it flowered into a deep love; they had sat under the moon together as children filled with happiness being together, and now as adults that feeling had also matured and became something more.
In great love Vasa conceived a son, and the forest community was filled with joy, dancing, and the playing of harps and lutes. Until one day at their sons 3rd birthday, messengers from the outposts surrounding the village came with dire news; men in dark armor and laid with fell magics were coming near.
At first it was thought they would pass without any harm, after all many traveled near the village without occurence. But such a thing was not to be; finding this enclave of elves the dark men came upon them with force, seeking plunder and destruction. Telling his wife to keep their son safe in the council hall with the Elders, Pendras went into battle with the others. But these men they fought were no ordinary men. They seemed to delight in killing, laughing harshly as their elven foes screamed in pain as fell magics and enchanted blades cut them down like flies. In rage Pendras sought one of their leaders, rushing his way thru before a cleric of the enemy. A spell stopped him in his dash and held his bones stiff, unable to move he collapsed to the ground with a blow to the head.
Pendras awoke amidst the smell of burning flesh and hewn and mangled bodies. The bodies of his kin…wandering in a daze of grief he stumbled to the council hall; nothing left but the stumps of trees and burnt ashes in ruin. Searching among the dead he stepped upon a female body...looking closer with tear misted eyes he saw; Vasa, their infant son held clutched in her arms, both blackened and withered by strange energies. His wife and son were dead. He buried them with care.
Pendras wandered out of his former home reduced to ashes, wandering through the forest without aim or thought. His mind blank and disbelieving, he stood at a pool and knelt down to drink, he was parched and bloodied. As he drank the cloud over his mind lifted and the full brunt of what had happened passed through him. There the tears of Pendras were unleashed...he wept for hours and stayed at the poolside for days.
They had attacked not for plunder or material gain, but for the sheer joy of misery and death. These were no ordinary men.
Years pass, and the moons turn in the sky watching...
Pendras stood over a cliff watching the strange men. For years he had waited for this moment, trained with unswerving devotion that few could find in themselves. Tyr, God of Justice; he had seen his temples, known the friendship of those of the faith, all he sought was Justice for the wrongs he had felt and the wrongs that might be done to others. But his was a chaotic spirit, he was a nomad at heart and a wanderer...for in his heart he wandered to get away from the pain, from the memories...the only respite he had he found in Tyr his god, and the honing of his skills in battle so that one day he might bring justice to those who had destroyed his home, who had destroyed all who he loved. Only later had he discovered they were Banites...an evil and despicable god. How he desired the day all of them would be destroyed, but for now he had little companions but his own two swords, they were like a part of his own body, tools of the fire in his heart. He called no place his home, he had few lasting friends; he always left when the bond of friendship came to close, in his heart he feared he would lose them like he had lost everything in his youth.
Now he watched these followers of Bane, a priest and two warriors. Hiding In the shadows his ears perked up and he looked for guidance at the moons in the sky. Not yet...
He turned abruptly and walked away, his cold and disciplined heart burning. One day he would exact justice, but not today.
