A large white daisy has been painted in the centre of the shield. Rows of throwing blade scabbards line the back of the shield, along with a pouch of sling stones.
CHARACTER:
Marty always speaks in a cheerful friendly tone, but observant characters may notice a certain sadness, and occasionally pend up fury, behind her positive facade. Marty is passionately community minded, and works tirelessly assisting the less fortunate in Peltarch. She works as one of the city's gardeners, focusing on keeping the grass in the commons evenly cut, and the trees that grow there in good health. Her primary role is as a military scout however, and when not patrolling she is reporting to the Legion tower on the pass, the Defence League in Hinhold, and to the Circle of Quercatha Terr south of Norwick. This leaves Marty with very little time for herself. When permitting herself the rare luxury of sleep she retires to a small tent hidden in the grassed area behind Peltarch's city hall.
HISTORY:
Marty was raised in an orphanage in Peltarch's Docks district. According to the orphanage records, her family were traders, and were all slaughtered when their caravan was raided by orcs while travelling between Peltarch and Jyyd. A group of adventurers fought and defeated the orcs, and found baby Martoushca among the orc's supply of fresh rations. The adventurers delivered the baby, along with her parent's diary, to the orphanage in Peltarch. Marty was never adopted, and was eventually expelled from the orphanage when old enough to fend for herself.Marty fell in with local adventurers, eventually signing up as a recruit in the Legion of Troff. She also followed her spiritual calling, taking druidic oaths. She served as one of Sheela Peryroyl's "Green Children", providing itinerate agricultural assistance up and down the Nars. As her career as an "adventurer" progressed, she was accepted into the fold of the Sisterhood of the Crimson Glove, a philanthropic order of powerful women.
When the armies of N'Jast marched through Narfell against Peltarch, Martoushca was on the frontlines with the Legion, fighting the N'Jast advance from Jyyd, up the Nars, all the way back into the streets of Peltarch. Her exploits during the war were noteworthy. She became a decorated hero and eventually rose to the rank of Captain.
After the war, Marty partially resigned from her military duties and entered into Peltarch's political arena. Believing that this would be the best way to make a significant difference for the common people of Peltarch, she ran a successful campaign and gained a seat on Peltarch's Senate.
Marty partially uncovered a plot to undermine the Senate and install a monarchy over Peltarch. Without solid evidence however, her opponents were easily able to dismiss her as a crazed conspiracy theorist - "Mad Marty". The plot continued to unfold however, with some senators being found in rags wandering the docks late at night, having lost the senses. Marty lost much of her memory at this time, crippling her ability to effectively uncover the plot.
With the Senate dissolved and a monarchy installed over Peltarch, Marty did her best to remain politically active, serving as an elected "Voice of the People". She found that this was merely a token position however, and when her term was expired, she retired from politics defeated.
After a pilgrimage to the Mountain of St Jerrick, Marty returned to Peltarch, resuming her gardening position, reenlisting with the Legion, and returning to the adventuring lifestyle of her youth. She remains a staunch defender of Peltarch and her people, especially the needy and downtrodden, doing what she can to make her city a more just and beautiful place.
