Narfell Staff Restructure and Candidacy Applications

  • Dev

As many have been aware, staff has been discussing and agreeing upon a rollout plan for restructuring over the last couple of months.

    The Admin Team

    Structure

    • Composition - The admin team will consist of five members elected by the community. Ideally, the community votes for a group of admins that encompass a broad range of skillsets and have experience in things such as community leadership, hosting servers, etc. but ultimately the community will decide the makeup of the admin team

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Server Direction - The admin team will set all server policy
    • IT Management - The admin team will be responsible for managing budgets, hosting, and overall server health (~$550/year)
    • Community Engagement - The admin team will maintain open communication with the community by regularly providing updates, surveys, community votes of active players, hosting town halls, and addressing concerns.

    Selection Process

    • Eligibility - Candidates must have a minimum of 6 months of active membership on the server
    • Application - Candidates will submit applications outlining their qualifications, platform, and vision for the server. These items will be listed publicly during the community vote. Application sections will include:
      • Listing their relevant experience (community leadership roles, time spent in positions on Narfell or other online game servers/communities)
      • Stance on how decisions would be made between admin team members and how community involvement would work
      • Stance on staff member term limits
      • Stance on how other teams are staffed (DMs, Devs, PGs, etc)
      • Stance on how recall votes should work
      • Stance on admin team membership and other staff role exclusivity
    • Community Voting - The community will vote for the candidates they believe are most qualified to lead the server. An initial vote will be held with all candidates who’ve applied based on the following guidelines (subject to change in future votes):
      • All eligible candidates who’ve applied will be on the ballot
      • Candidate experience and stances from applications will be publicized
      • Registered Narfell voters can vote via a forum poll for as many candidates as they’d like during the two week window
      • The 5 candidates with the most votes will be granted membership to the admin team
      • In the case of a tie, a secondary vote will occur as a forum poll listing all tied candidates, registered votes can vote for exactly 1 candidate. The remaining open admin team positions will be filled based on which candidates have the most votes upon completion of this vote. In case of tie, repeat process

    End of Terms

    • No term limits - Although no term limits will be dictated upfront, the upcoming admin team can impose whatever term feels relevant after election.
    • Recall votes - At any time, the community can petition for removal of a member of the admin team, a process that will be determined by admin team members after election.

    Onboarding

    • Transition Period - Existing staff will remain in position for up to three months, or until the incoming Admin team feels they no longer require assistance.

There is no exclusivity requirement of roles. For this round.

Any one, including any current staff can apply to be an admin team candidate.
