Polling Test... Just cuz.

Soooo... trying out the new polling functionality. Whatcha think?
-
Yes. It can and, likely, will influence votes.
Late voters will have an unfair advantage over early voters. If they can see the leaders, trends, close votes, choices that have no chance, etc., late voters will have the option to change their vote with that extra information. That is not fair to the early voters, and it could influence the outcome. With our small sample, a few votes can be huge.
We will certainly get transparency but only after the voting window is closed. Otherwise, it may sway the results.
-
I mean, transparency is what we are going for. What is the concern about late voting? That'll it'll impact close votes?
-
@lence
If I remember correctly, I could see the results of other voters before I voted. That is not ideal, and gives late voters an unfair advantage that early voters do not have.Is there a way to block the results for everyone until after voting is closed?
-
Sure, that works. Polls are by nature limited and including the why of one's choices can at times be warranted for a more complete picture. I'd suggest including a "none of the above" bracket aswell, in case there are those who feel strongly enough to vote, but find nothing that suits them in the options listed. This way they too can vote and at least become a visible part of the data.
-
@tpickles I think that's an elegant solution. Polls can be data specific, and the forum thread tied to it can be used for opinions.
-
@karnivor could the forum thread be used to make comments?
-
Would it be possible to include a comments section to a future poll?
-
Awesome, exactly the response I was hoping for. Great job!
-
I worry about those who vote for the Fugue Plane. I'm taking about you Satan and Itsa!
-
@kingcreeper You can actually drill down into the votes and see who voted for what... That's the transparency folks have been asking for. If someone votes, it's all out there in the open. If no one recognizes the name... well, that's a discussion to have. Public flogging or private trucidation?
-
How dare you.
-
@kingcreeper said in Polling Test... Just cuz.:
Is there any way to check the validity of the polls? I trust less than half of you half as far as I can throw you, I can imagine someone making a hundred dummy accounts to flood their preferred option.
In regards to "official" votes... I mean we did have everyone register with their forum accounts.
