At this time it is not to take the land route to and from Peltarch reguardless of the numbers you bring without a scout with enough kill to identify the presence of Sharrens. As of now they are no longer Bandits but an organized force of Sharrens that is learning and growing more powerful from their plunders.
Their Casters, and clerics have grown stronger and much smarter while their group coordination is stronger than in the past, they are no longer a simple threat to deal with. Two legions privates are left at either side of the sign, their job is boring but it is to draw attention to the matter at hand while the other legionaries and Halflin's from the long road can likely see them from their barricades and high vantage points.
