Cadrick F. Tinheart

  • I've decided to roll up a new character. 😄

    Cadrick F. Tinheart
    Account name: Caeleil24

    Background:
_Cadrick is a gold dwarf, from the Rift. He was raised amongst his kin well, enjoying all the pleasantries that come from living amongst a large community of dwarves. His farther Furyar Tinheart, was the patriarch and leader of his family tribe, which was a smaller one, and fell under the ultimate leadership of a larger clan. However the Tinhearts were loyal, industrious, and honorable in their role in society, always willing to volunteer, always willing to help.

At a young age, Cadrick followed this tradition of aid in his family, and volunteered to serve in the greater military that protected the underground portions of the Rift, following essentially in his father’s footsteps. Cadrick was then educated in the ways of war. He learned on the Warhammer, how to use the tower shield effectively, and was educated in the art of defense. The squad in which Cadrick was ultimately assigned to was a front line group. The Walls. Trained to be a multi or one man barrier against the evils of the underdark, none shall pass him or his brethren less they be smitten down by hammer and axe. His duty was to take the hits others could not take and keep going. His duty, was to protect, and he learned his trade well. Becoming not honored, but recognized at his skills as a warrior, and he was happy with the choice he had made in life.

But it was not to last.

Many years past, and Cadrick’s father, Furyar, passed into the next life. Cadrick mourned the loss, but took the mantle as the eldest son, and leader of the family well. However, shortly after that event Cadrick’s squad was sent on a patrol of the underdark again. This time, he was bringing up the rear of the group, and important place as he was protecting the backs of his friends, when the group heard voices up ahead. The squad pressed forwards quietly, through a small hole in which they had to send weapons and shields through independently from their persons, and came upon a ledge that overlooked an open cavern, in the middle of which were Orcs, guarding large pack lizards that were laden with explosives. The Orcs appeared to be debating which way they should go. The squad realized that they were still close enough to their city that it was possible the Orcs were intending to attack it, and devised a plan of attack quickly. Cadrick’s duty once the fight started was to grab a small explosive sack, and quickly return to the small hole that led to the more major caves. Should the battle not go the way of the dwarves, Cadrick’s orders were clear. He was to detonate the explosive and collapse the cave on friend and foe alike.

The battle was had. Cadrick managed to slip from it back to the opening with a small barrel of explosive powder, and then returned to the ledge. The Orcs were strong. Magical even. Something was not right about this fight, and his friends were falling one after another. His conscience screamed to do something in his mind, but he had his orders, and when it was clear that this battle was not going to end well, Cadrick ran back to the small opening with the barrel and lit the fuse, then slipped through the small opening, wedging his tower shield perpendicular into the hole, and taking cover on the other side.

The explosion rocked the earth around him filling the air with dust, destroyed his shield, but sealed off the cavern from the main caves that lead to his home. The city was safe, but his reputation was not. His superiors believed his tale, and commended him for following the orders he was given, but that did not stop the rumors. His valor in battle did nothing to prevent those who did not like the family Tinheart from spreading the lies that Cadrick abandoned his squad to save his own skin, that he deserted his allies in their time of need. Unfortunately, sometimes perception can be everything. Vendors began to raise their prices for the Tinhearts, some even stopped doing business with them at all. Rations were cut back, and the family suffered. Once even, in the streets of the underground city, his younger brothers were attacked and beaten.

Fearing the worst and knowing there was only one way for things to get better for his family, Cadrick went before the City Council to plead his case, and after many hours, it was decided that the best move Cadrick could do, would be to disband his family name, have his younger siblings taken into a larger clan, and leave the Rift.

It took many days for Cadrick to agree this was the best decision, and another week to convince his family it was best for them.
Cadrick alone now bears the name of Tinheart, and he bears it with pride in spite of the dishonor and shame it carries within the Rift.

He alone now works to clear his family’s name through honor, and sacrifice. As it has always been._
