The Siege of Peltarch
-
This is an explanatory/guide post to lay out what will happen the coming few weeks.
Beginning tonight/tomorrow, the city of Peltarch will be under siege by powerful armies of chaos and evil. This will submerge Peltarch into an overwhelming threat and peril, facing potential destruction at the hands of those who would like to see it taken down.
In the DM team we will enact a system that will measure the force of the sieging army against that of the defenders, and will account for supplies and morale, and the impact that these things have in the military strength of each combat unit.
Things to note:
-
During the time it takes to complete the events, leaving Peltarch by foot will most likely mean immediate death. However, the ferry services to Norwick and Oscura will remain available. This is not so the sieging army can be flanked by PCs, it's just a means for players who want to opt out of the siege events and prefer to play on their own. They can do so, by giving up on their ability to impact on the destruction or salvation of Peltarch and the potential rewards attached to it. Characters that choose to devote themselves to the conflict may assume that the ferry service has been taken down until new notice. It is just something that the DM team doesn't want to hard enforce, to give everyone some freedom in the way they play their characters.
-
Ongoing plots from different DMs will continue ongoing, and in fact the adding up calamities will subtract from Peltarch's resources and military power as the defenders double themselves to face all threats at once.
-
Players will be the deciding factor, and that's not only down to how efficiently they fight spawns when fighting them ingame. Providing Peltarch with resources and seeking allies for the conflict will for sure tip the scales in one side or another. As PCs seek out allies of old and new to help defend Peltarch, Peltarch's military power will raise, but the invading army will too enlist aid of factions that would see Peltarch fall. Also, as Peltarch gets crowded with allied combat units to protect itself, the upkeep costs of soldiers and weaponry will raise, making it more expensive to maintain the defence campaign. To that effect, both PCs and NPCs can make an impact by donating gold or supplies to the Peltarch defence fund. This is being tracked in the thread where the king's meeting was summed up but a new thread will be open soon with all the ongoing details on the combat strength of the armies, supplies, morale and casualties.
-
PCs can also contribute to the military strength of Peltarch at individual level, if they choose so. To that effect, players who have PCs that would make their priority to protect Peltarch from the invading army can sign up by sending me a PM with the name and level of said characters. The DM team will decide a combat strength value for each PC mostly based on their level that will sum up to the total combat strength of Peltarch. Individual combat strengths of each PC won't be made public, as the numbers will simply be added up to a pool under the name of "Adventurers and Heroes of Narfell" in the defender armies. PCs who sign up this way will be taken into account for the outcome of events even when being offline, as they'll be assumed to be always fighting for Peltarch in one front or another.
