Alice Marrian (player - EngelHart)

  • She wants to go home
    But nobody's home
    That's where she lies
    Broken inside
    With no place to go
    No place to go
    To dry her eyes
    Broken inside

    "Nobody's Home" - Avril Lavigne

The way the thunder boomed between lightning flashes and heavy rains poured down on the city of Peltarch was a perfect echoing of Alice Marrian's life. She sat huddled in a half broken crate in some alley of the docks district; a futile attempt to stay dry in the storm. The young woman shivered from the cold. Her shirt and pants were worn out and stained. She still carried a few bruises on her, hidden by dirt and grime. Her dark brown hair was mess, soaked with rain and in dire need of a good combing. Sad brown eyes stared off into space while she reflected on her life.

Her parents struggled to make a living out in the docks of Peltarch. Father worked long hours for little pay, and had a habit of drinking too much. Mother tried to raise her daughter and take care of the house, but never could be satisfied with her meager life. They'd often argue and fight, as he would come home drunk and she'd bitch him out. The fighting got worse, and Alice began to leave the house when she's start to hear the fighting.

One night, when Alice was fifteen, her father found out his wife had slept with another man. Alice snuck out of the house as the fighting started. He was very drunk and angry, and she didn't wish to find herself at his mercy. As she left, she could hear objects being thrown against the walls. She never saw her parents again. Her father had killed her mother that night, and was swiftly caught, found guilty, and executed for his crime.

Her father's brother gained custody of Alice. He as a big man, with a big ego to match. While her father was only mean while he was drunk, her uncle was mean all the time. She constantly found herself given too many chores to do, and when she'd fail to finish them all, he would punish her severly. For a year, she spent life as a battered child, until she could take it no more and ran away.

"Ran away to what?" she wondered aloud as she sat in her broken crate. She had no place to go. She had no home. Life on the streets was rough, she had to constantly hide and stay out of the gangs. What little food she ate was stolen or purchased with stolen money.

"Hey! Street rat!" A loud booming voice jolted her out of her reverie. She reflexively flinched and shrank away from the voice's owner as the memory of her uncle was still fresh in her mind.

"Get on out of 'ere, ya filthy rat!" the voice yelled, as the big man shooed her away. "I ain't wantin' no loiterer's around the shop! Tis bad fer business. So git going 'fore I call the guards!"

Alice mumbled apologetically as she hurriedly ran off into the rain.
