The Legend of Lyla Kane

  • Legion

    Hi, pretties!

What?? Lyla acts that way for a reason? What a twist!

Also I'm not a writer, please don't judge me too harshly!
    ā€“----
As a young girl, Lyla Kane lived for mischief. Lyla was the type of child who would play barefoot in the mud and ruin the expensive dresses her father bought for her, who would much rather spend a day trying to have a proper discussion with a squirrel than spend an extra second studying her lessons. She was, afterall, the daughter of the prestigious merchant Jayce Kane, laws and social norms didn't have to apply to her, she lived in a different world than the other children in her town, and so played with none of them. Lyla continued to daydream her way through her proper education and find meaning in the adventures she had when she was away from them, until her father took action...

Her father, Jayce, was a man who loved his social graces and proper etiquette, who would not eat at a table improperly set and would not speak with a person improperly dressed. His daughter was a problem to him, a problem he hadn't the faintest idea how to solve. Reasoning with her was impossible, she was imaginative and full of ludicrous justifications for her various oddities, bribery seemed only to fund things that furthered her habits, and to discipline her only made it more adventurous for her to escape! Jayce understood that what he needed was help- her tutors were doing nothing for her, it was time for drastic action to be taken.

And so Lyla Kane met Sir Ludwig William Winrich III. Sir Winrich was a exactly the sort of man Lyla's father idolized, shining armor in the field, beautiful finery in the hall, charming and of course ludicrously wealthy. Lyla had never had a tutor like Sir Winrich, she quickly fell prey to his charms, his romanticized tales of adventures and diplomacy, his steadfast commitment to justice and honor. Needless to say, the effect was not as Jayce Kane had desired, matters simply became worse. Lyla convinced sir Winrich to begin teaching her swordplay and it spiraled from there, Lyla Kane knew that no matter what happened in her life, this was new path was to be her destiny. When her father returned from a long trip to find that his daughter still hadn't begun to act like a proper lady, he was furious.

Heartbreak did not begin to describe what Lyla felt when her father sent Sir Winrich away, for a while she refused to leave her bedchamber and did little more than cry. She had never been so certain of her path in life, and her father had erected a roadblock she was currently unable to pass. The depression continued for days until her father departed on urgent business, and it was then that she was able to contain her rage and sadness to form a plan. She would leave home with some of her father's fortune and hire a knight to take her on as his squire.

And so Lyla Kane left in the dead of night, her father's sword, gold, and traveling cloak all she took with her. It turned out that Sir Winrich had not made it far since his termination, she found him unshaven and drunk in the local inn. He insisted that he would be well in the morning, and that she needed only give him her gold and traveling supplies so that they could set off on their journey in the pursuit of justice. While Lyla found his present state disheartening, she could not wipe from her mind the image of the ideal knight that he had been so keen on demonstrating to her and her father just weeks before.

Of course, life never goes the way you plan it. When Lyla awoke the innkeeper told her that Sir Winrich had departed in the middle of the night by horse, and left her only gold enough to pay for her room. Lyla invented a thousand pressing scenarios for why Sir Winrich had to leave so suddenly, and decided that as his squire she had to find him and aid him in whatever dire matter he was attending to. With some charm, Lyla got the innkeeper to tell her that Sir Winrich had mentioned a trip to the Mount Nars the previous night while he was still amongst the peasants, and so she set off to find her master and her destiny!
