Gloinus Kegheart

  • _The young dwarf groaned quietly as sunlight hit his eyes. He lifted his head slightly, then winced in pain. That had been heavy night of drinking. He rolled in his bed, and suddenly there was no more bed under him. The dwarf fell on the ground with a loud thump.

He opened one of his eyes, seeing a bottle of ale lying on the floor nearby. His mouth felt like the sandy dunes of Anauroch. Ever so slowly he began to crawl towards the bottle. Those three feet felt like an eternity. Finally he reached the bottle, and with a relieved sigh placed it on his lips - only to find it empty. He slumped back on the ground, passing out.

A few hours later he finally managed to crawl down the stairs. He didn't have a house to call his own - he had been living in the Boarshead inn for a year now. Misty shook her head. "No more, Gloinus. I know your heart's in right place, but you owe us way too many kegs. You need to find some other place to sleep in." Gloinus' head dipped in shame and he staggered outside.

That night he spent behind Wald's barn. The squeakin of both the windmill and the rats inside the barn lulled him to uneasy sleep. Misty's words echoed in his mind, filling his dreams. "Keg.. Heart.. Find other place.."

The following morning he packed his things and set out. He spent his last gold to buy a horrible, rusty chainshirt from Kyra, the cheapest vendor in town. He then set out on the path to north.

    –---------

Century or two had passed before he set his foot back on Narfell's soil. His once brown hair had mostly faded to gray. The symbol of Marthammor Duin, his guardian on the long journeys, decorated his neck. He breath in deep. He was home again._
