Kessmia - A lost, broken relic of the Elven camp

  • Character name: Kessmia
    Account name: Mooncandies

_One of the elven children that had survived the fall of the Elven camp, upon her escape she had been caught by slavers. She questioned why these things were happening to her, over time she had learned to accept them, having been sold to the Kursk family, she served them loyally. It was bitter sweet living with them, as at times they offered a modicum of compassion, while at others, they were abusive when she was unable to meet their high expectations. Over years, she had gained the trust of the family, able to walk freely within Oscura to a certain extent to collect groceries, baubles, and valuables when needed, even allowed to communicate with other slaves from time to time.

Having been discovered that, while with no obvious intention to use it against the family, she had been communicating with the monks who also had resided within the city, learning techniques that the inner elf inside her, the inner ranger had craved physically (climbing, sneaking, exercises), as well as understanding the unification of mind, body and soul, the Kursks had initially seen this as a possible threat. Despite a brutal beating, all to real threats of being purged with fire, and possibility of execution in trying to find her motives in fear that she would betray the family, she had managed to convince them she was still loyal, and that her skills would be put to good use in defending the family if needed. In a rare occasion of mercy and forgiveness, they allowed Kess the benefit of the doubt.

Having been a caretaker to the chamber maids as well as internal security within the home, she served house and home for many more years, until the fateful day where a certain young master in the family had been executed, the same master who at times she would spar with in secret, the same master that she would allow herself to be an open channel to his abuse if needed. The family, grief stricken, had found out that there had been a request written under his name that for her loyalty, services to the family, and work she had done to protect the Kursk name and family, that steps would be taken to give her a pardon. The document seemed legitimate enough, though whether he truly written it or not, Kess never found out.

With her new found freedom, much like many slaves who had been freed before, she was still broken. A citizen of oscura, she remained to help pick up the pieces. Faith in Solonar still intact, she still dread returning to the surface. Having been fed lie after lie, being told that other elves would shun her for what she had done, being told that her God would shun her, a paralyzing fear overcame her each time she would attempt to leave what she had called home for so many years. Serving the Kursk family on her own free will now, she continued to labor as a blooded, being paid a fair wage for her services. Little had changed.

It took the convincing of a mysterious stranger many years after her freedom had been granted that had caught wind of her plight, had found out that a faithful of the Seldarine and Solonar, having heard her pray in the deepest of silence with her keen senses and even handed her an authentic village bow from her past to remind her of her origins, and attempted convinced the elf that no matter how grim things could be, to be one of the People meant that you should always remain free. Much like her name she had been given, the glowing coals in her heart began to flicker, and whatever little kindling had remained within her, would begin to slowly burn._
