    Curiosity Saved the Cat

    • Elaine Xixia Rayfe! Come out at once!

Lorelai's eyes appeared rather infuriated as a panther cub appeared from behind the bed, her ears dropped down fearful. All over the room there were torn patches of clothes and a general mess. Seemed like the cub had been having fun, when Lorelai frowned at the feline. At the frown, the panther cub turned into a little half-elf wearing one of her mother's most expensive dresses, which had been disgraced and torn as the child played and toyed with it. The little girl's face was a picture of itself, wildly painted with lipstick and other make up instruments that made her look like a tiny clown.

    • How many times have I told you to not come into my room and much less wear my dresses? You're just ten, and those don't even fit you! And you've been playing with your aunt's makeup kit -again-. She's going to be mad at you, you know?

    • She's not! replied quickly the brat, as a desperate defense.

A little back behind Lorelai, Leena Lynn rolled her eyes as above them both, a girly giggle could be heard. Tojan, Lorelai's pixie companion, looked amused at the scene.

    • Princess has done it again!

    • If you don't learn to behave young lady I am going to put you in a cage. - threatened Lorelai.

    • Noooo not in a cage please please please ma' I'll be good now! - _the kid whined and begged with that half torn dress and messy makeup, which much to her mother's discontent made the little girl look extremelly adorable while at it.

She took a deep breath and let out a long sigh, her gesture softening._ - Come, we have to wash you. Sunny's coming for lunch and we can't have you looking like that.

    • Yay, auntie's coming! - cheered both Leena Lynn and Elaine Xixia as the latter quickly slipped herself out of the dress, dumping it into her mom's arms and suddenly both kids had rushed off her mother's room, leaving Lorelai there with a half torn dress in her arms and a messed up bedroom, the silence now only distrubed by Tojan's giggling.

_Eight years passed, and Elaine Xixia had grown to be a charming, beautiful woman. Still identical to her sister Leena Lynn physically, their personalities had taken quite diferent paths. Leena Lynn was more introspect and reserved, having taken worse the parting of their father, but Elaine Xixia had handled that well. She was instead extroverted, cheerful and a magnet of attention in parties, but in the other hand, what she had not taken so well was the loss of her ability to control her lycanthropy.

Perhaps for the best, both Jerrick and Lorelai had educated their daughters to contain their instincts, to restrain the beast. That would definitely protect the little girls from countless troubles and missunderstandings that could have fatal consequences. Since this was done since they were mere kids capable of reasoning, the result was that the beast, while somewhere within, had been completely caged and chained.

Leena Lynn had been studying the ways of the druid following her father's path, which would allow her to still shapeshift into a feline when she was ready, but Elaine Xixia did not have that kind of dedication. Whimsical and guided by the impulse of each moment, Elaine had an innate talent for magic just like her mother. But much as she was cheerful and extroverted in her social life, in her intimacy she often felt empty. As if a part of her being was missing, she had spent the last few years masking the disappointment of not being able to commune with that missing piece of her self, developping a compulsive need for collecting outfits and dresses to wear. Perhaps in her subconscious she felt like that way she could still shapeshift somehow, looking like a different person for each occasion.

Elaine Xixia couldn't just let go, and in fact some traits of her personality were heavily affected by her now dormant feline half. She was curious beyond the threshold of self-preservation - when something caught her attention, she appeared to become enthralled by it, ignoring the danger around her to sate her curiosity. She was shy and bold at the same time, in that strange mixture that makes a feline's instinct. She was possessive, very possessive of what is hers. And she still purred while sleeping, which also reflected in her accent, much like in her "aunt" Tindra.

It was precisely one afternoon speaking with Tindra, who also shared her same problem of having been a lycan and losing it, that the young girl's avid curiosity led Tindra to tell her that there was one way to still grasp for her feline origins, more or less. It was common knowledge that powerful sorcerers are capable of shapeshifting into other beings. So, why not a feline? The only difficulty was to get good enough to be able to learn the polymorph spell! Well, that and find some feline essence, but that was something to worry for later.

A new world opened before Elaine's eyes. She decided to stop feeling sorry about herself, and leap out into this world of mystery and adventure. She had to see many wonders, make many friends, and slay many monsters to one day, be strong enough to shapeshift again into a feline. Perhaps it wouldn't be the same as letting her inner beast out, but she felt that this way she could once again reunite with herself._
