"Corunir, one of these days you're going to get yourself into a situation that'll end with you dead"
Corunir's old friend Kamimora used to say this to him a lot, it turns out he was pretty much spot on the mark. Of course you didn't need to be a diviner to figure that one out.The elf looked up from the floor and around at the men who currently held him captive, Thugs mostly, clearly hired men, he's been taken by someone with money. Who has he screwed with who has a lot money lately? A few people come to think of it, first was that man with the unusal hat and the woman who lives in the fancy-and heavily warded-house. But neither of them actually knew who he was, so that really only leaves one other. He looked around at his surroundings, there was a window but he couldn't make out any landmarks, just endless blue, by the door hung 5 identical looking amulets, marked "Emergency". Corunir smirked to himself, he knew exactly where he was and who took him.
Corunir brushed a hand through his blonde hair and pushed himself up from his bed, it was early morning, almost the time for the guard to be changed, his favourite time for work. There would be no one awake, there would be no one wandering the streets to see him, and the guards who actually are on patrol would be too tired and bored to pay much attention.
The elf retrieved and rolled out a carpet kneeling on it. He leaned down and whispered "Perfection" a command word taken as a joke from a "Friend" of his. The carpet floated up off the floor and out the window, if anyone who was even awake looked out the window would not think much of this. Carpets of Flying were not unusual sights in Halruaa.
In Khaefbaal, control of the city has been handed over to Naval Officers, due to the Governers attempts to curry favor with the netyarch's court. However, these Officers have enough trouble controlling their own men and the small amount of presence makes committing crime far easier, which is ideal for Corunir. He was a Researcher first, "Professional Thief" second, however his projects required funding, and funding was typically given to those who kiss the arses of the Netyarch. Corunir had to make money another way, Selling his skills at taking things that didn't belong to him was his preferred way.
Corunir however, had no ability in stealth, or lock picking. The lack of Stealth is easily fixed, magical items that made him naked to the eye were easy to find, but most locks in Halura had wards against spells such as Knock, he had to be more creative. So he would find his way in somehow, He'd seduce the women, he'd befriend the men, be hired as a servant to the unpleasant and play music for the cultured. Finding the keys was an easy task, and the vain people of Khaefbaal loved it when someone explored their home, admiring their fine art works and what have you. A few nights ago however, Corunir got into the house for a completely new reason, he was invited in by someone who knew exactly who he was.
He had been hired by one of the most wealthy merchants in Khaefbaal to steal an idol of Netherese origin from a rival, things did not go as planned. Corunir gained entry into the house by playing the part of street performer, Wowing and bedazzling the target with cheap sleight of hand tricks. The plan worked perfectly, he gained the key and left leaving the merchant none the wiser. What he did not count on was the man being invisible in his study. Apparently he had been testing a new ring he had just bought, with the intention of playing a prank on his daughter, Things got quite awkward when they both became visible in front of each other.
The man was surprisingly a good natured sort, and they joked about it over drinks. The idol was worthless, a fake, and was perfectly fine with Corunir taking it. In exchange however, he asked Corunir to steal a rare gem from his original employer. It was stupid, it was a bad idea, it was so obvious that Corunir was the one who took it and would have gotten him in serious trouble. But it was also so…Hilarious, Ironic and Corunir was a sucker for a good laugh he agreed.
The job was easy, he took the key while lying about how he got the idol and came in three days later and took the gem. No wards, No guards and No victims suddenly appearing in front of him. The most curious of all though, was No Repercussions, he thought for sure he would be caught, be killed by a disgruntled former client, but that hadn't happened at all, he had stolen something so obviously and got off scot free. At least he did, until he fell asleep while flying his carpet to his next job and waking up surrounded by Thuggish folk.
He twisted his tied hands, tied in rope, really? He actually felt a little insulted he could easily worm out of of a rope tie. The thugs began to part, as his Disgruntled Former Client began strolling towards him, gods how dramatic, he loved it. The merchant began monologuing about how stupid it was for Corunir to betray him like that, he wasn't even listening any more, he was too busy with his bindings. Eventually the merchant began to finish his speech "and did you really think I would fall for such an obvious fake?"
Corunir pointed at him accusingly "You did actually, it was a fake from the start."
"What? N-No it wasn't!"
"Uhh, Yeah it was" Corunir pushed himself up "It was a fake idol that was sold to him by a travelling conman"
"That's...preposterous" the Merchant hardly believed it.
"Well, Them's the breaks" Corunir muttered as he gave the Merchant a soft pat on the shoulder.
"Hold on" the Merchant said looking up "You were tied up"
Corunir then cast Flare. He was lucky none of the Thugs were looking away, or that any of them were particularly smart, they all saw the bright shiny lights too. While the lot of them were rubbing at their rather sore eyes Corunir ran for the door, snatching all 5 amulets while he was at it. "After him!" cried the Merchant. Looking around, Corunir confirmed his theory, he was currently high above the ground in a Skyship. Looking over the edge he attempted to figure out where he was, Somewhere by the coast at the very least, as he could see the isle of Rulasuu. He tossed four of the amulets over board and one around his neck before more Thugs began to surround him. "There! You're trapped now, You've no where to run in the sky!" Corunir replied by jumping off.
Small items with enchanted with Feather Fall are a popular safety precaution on Skyships and Corunir slowly drifted to the ground. The slow descent gave him plenty of time to think about his next move. He can't go home, they'll be looking for him in the city and he couldn't go to Yaulazna since it's the most obvious place for someone "On the run" to hide out. Also, this merchant would presumably still look for him, He'd need a new name, a new face and hell why not, Even a new Hair Color. Luckily for Corunir, he had plenty of Wizard contacts, he'd be able to do this, and disappear forever.
Landing a short walk from a nearby town, Corunir, Professional Thief, resolved to die. He still wanted to
continue his research however, so he would need a new profession, perhaps explorer, or Archaeologist who
knows. Yomiel turned towards the town, and walked towards his new life.PC Name - Yomiel Dedrion
