Mercenary Camp near the Nars Bridge
-
Troff Legion Corporal Romulus Grey sends word to Peltarch and Norwick that a group of evil-looking mercenaries has set up camp in the Nars Pass southwest of the Nars Bridge. The camp is on the south side of the river and is not visible from the road or the bridge. All travelers should take extreme caution in the area. These men do not look anything like the Damaran refugees that have camped there before.

Legion Captain Romulus and Private Eregor, accompanied by Mystic and Zahra, carried out a reconnaissance of the Gypsy Pass and Camp. All was not well. Near the entrance to the Gypsy Pass, several bodies on stakes were noted, and fires were burning south of the road that leads through the pass. Several more bodies were seen on the ground. A barrier of crates and barrels had been errected where the road passes through the fence and a ballista was set up behind it. They met scouts Suldin and Rasuil, both mounted, who reported that gnolls were responsible for the attack.
Romulus, Eregor, Mystic, and Zahra continued through the pass and into the camp. They searched the entire Gypsy Camp and found nothing out of the ordinary. That had been the case a few days earlier during Romulus previous scouting mission.

With the passage of time, the mercenaries present in the Pass and near Peltarch have gradually decreased in number, with several spotted heading westwards, until it appears that all of them have moved on, leaving behind ashes of campfires and clearings.
-
Some of the mercenaries have gone, while others have shifted to higher ground in light of the recent torrential downpours that have affected the region. Sometimes, they can be sighted engaged on patrol out in the Nars.
-
Despite his recent promotion to Captain, Legion Scout Romulus continues to do the road patrols himself, tramping from Norwick to Peltarch and back periodically, especially at night. He was overheard in the Peltarch Commons saying that the two mercenary camps near the Crossroads are gone, but there are two new ones, both rather large, near the Temple of Tempus. One is just west of the Temple, and the other in the woods to the east. The mercenaries spoken to were typically closed-mouthed, but one said they were just trying to earn some coin escorting travelers. None acted hostile.

Travellers report seeing a surge in the numbers of tight-lipped mercenaries encamped out in the pass. They keep to their camps, leaving trade routes clear.

Troff Legion Corporal Romulus was overheard in the Peltarch Commons reporting that he had found two mercenary camps near the Crossroads. One, previously noted by Mystic, is near the Rats and Bats Restaurant. The second, considerably larger, is north of the crossroads in the woods west of the road. Romulus said that these mercenaries did not appear hostile, but his attempts to speak with them were unsuccessful, possibly due to the lack of Common language. The larger camp contained oxen so perhaps these mercenaries are escorting merchants.

After aiding a young squire south, Mystic is on her way back from Norwick to Peltarch. She pulls the reigns of her horse to a sudden halt, then approaches the camp carefully. She greets them politely, however, they seem busy tending to the campfire and looking over tack and gear. She gives the horse a light kicks at the side and trots off… their presence is mentioned when she arrives in Peltarch.
-
The proprietors of the Rats n' Bats restaurant seemed to have enjoyed increased business as of late, the hearth fires burning dead into the night. Some of its regular patrons (not that many) have complained about the lack of space due to an influx of unfamiliar faces…

Legion Scout Romulus was overheard telling a large group in the Peltarch Commons that the mercenaries camped near the Nars Bridge are gone. Apparently, they moved on by themselves. Likewise, the Damaran refugees camped near the Kelemvore Temple also have departed. Romulus continues to patrol the road and pass nightly to ensure that commerce between Norwick and Peltarch remains unhindered.
