Oreth Meret's Characters (Oreth and Belloc)

  • Oreth

Oreth stands perhaps 5 feet and 11 inches, with a slim build, weighing perhaps 170 lbs. He is quite obviously human.

His skin is pale, and toughened, as though by years of living outside the comfort of cities. When his arms are bare, he often strokes them as though the feel of them is slightly strange to him.

His eyes are dark brown, and flicker constantly with a shadowy flame. His hair is also dark brown, and shoulder length, usually tied back, though occasionally he wears it down.

When his upper half is bare, a number of tattoos are visible. A black infinity sign appears on his left bicep, and his right bears the emblem of a red-eyed raven, perched atop a human skull, its talons dripping blood down the bone. A line of flowing script crawls up and around his left forearm, another around his right, and the same script graces his chest. All are tattooed in a dark grey ink, reminiscent of ashes. Though indecipherable to most, those who can read the secret language of druids recognize them as names. The left arm reads "Cade Legallow" the right "Enialis Xiloscient". Around his heart, two names "Dryden Rainweaver" and "Malik" form two parts of an incomplete circle.

When in the field, he often wears some variety of studded leather armor. His preferred look is black leather, studded with bone or dull iron, but of late he finds that beggars may not be choosers, and often wears brown leather. A hand-sized, triangular black scale is stitched to the back of the suit, just below the neck-line, centered on the spine. When he acquires a new suit of armor, he usually transfers this scale from one to the next within a few days. From his belt hang two humanoid hands, one apparently elven and skeletal, held together by sinew cords, the other reminiscent of that of a halfling, which is mummified, and black-skined. A human jawbone hangs from his belt-buckle, and the rest of the skull, which looks to have belonged to a rather large man, is affixed to his traveling pack. The skull bears a series of five deep indentations around its crown. Carved into the bone is a single phrase, repeated in Common, Elven, Undercommon, Sylvan, Abyssal, Draconic, Chultan, and Druidic. Very simply, it says "Thus always to those who hurt my family". He carries a large, wooden shield, and a carefully honed and sharpened scimitar at his belt.

In town and other more civilized settings, he most often wears a set of fur and soft-leather clothing, and a large fur cloak, which he pulls tight around him, seeming to almost always be cold, unaccustomed as he is to the climate.

In all cases, he wears a pair of necklaces. The first is a simple leather cord, from which hangs a gold disc, carved with the emblem of an intricate, symmetrical labyrinth, the symbol of the chultan jungle god Ubtao. The second is a braided cord, from which hangs a large, pearly white fang, tipped in black.

His accent is a strange mixture of sword-coast, and an exotic foreign inflection that the widely travelled can identify as Chultan. His voice is soft, and often flat and dead, though not totally unfriendly, when speaking with strangers. It warms more with those he knows, and in the presence of his oldest friends, his entire tone and diction becomes radically different, warmer, and much more animated and jocular.

He stands and walks on the balls of his feet, his arms bent at the elbows and held forward slightly, less mobile than most. This posture is even more pronounced when hunting, and he gives the impression of some large, predatory beast.
