    Character Name: Kimiya Nereir

    –------------

There is a family of Elven scholars with a strong affinity for Magic. Traditionally, they have devoted their studies to these arts upon attaining adulthood. They have spent their younger years on more basic pursuits, so that they could make desicions wisely. For generations this is the way it has been. Traditions have become very important to the family. Until one man, not quite old enough to see the wisdom of The Family Elders, broke a tradition.

He fell in love with a passionate, beautiful Human woman. Her hair was as fiery as her spirit, and her strength of character lured him in helplessly. Against the advice of The Elders, the two married and the woman came to live in their manor, somewhat outcast but not cast out.

After a short time, the two had a daughter. Kimiya was her Mother's daughter--impulsive and passionate--with hair like burnished copper and a temper as hot, yet her father's impulsiveness, pale green eyes and angular face. She had an unusual beauty that set her apart even as a child. She aged somewhat more slowly than humans physically, though she matured much more quickly than her Elven peers, and as a result she lived mostly outside her own society, not among the children nor yet among the adults.

As the years passed, her father came back into favor, though her small family unit was still somewhat isolated. Her education was thorough, and when it was decided she was an adult, she would have the choice to pursue the Magic Arts as her family had always done.

    That day never came.

One evening, at the chronological age of 24, the physical age of about 16, and a maturity level that split the difference, she was woken from her sleep by a great storm that seemed to shake the very air. Through the thunder and wind and rain, she heard something low and rhythmic that raised the hair on her arms. Slipping from her bed, she followed the sound to a room deep in the manor. Slowly, quietly, she opened the door just enough to look in.

The room was dark and smokey, filled with the eerie chanting that had lured her there. Robed figures stood arranged, and, though she could not see his face, she -felt- her father among them. One of the figures raised its head and she knew she had been seen. She shut the door as quickly and quietly as she could and fled back to her room. Throwing herself into her bed, she burried herself in her blankets and prayed that the storm would drown out the sound of whatever terrifying ritual was happening downstairs. She does not remember falling asleep again, that night.

The following day, her father was missing. No one had heard from him, or seen him. No one could recall who had spoken to him last. Her mother said that he stayed up to pursue a line of mysterious research, but she did not know what it was.

Kimiya felt a sick knot in her stomach. Her father had gotten mixed up with something bad, and she had found out his secret. And then he had disappeared. That night, she gathered what supplies she could, stole some weapons from their armory, and left when the sky was darkest to find her father and save him from whatever he had done.

She wandered aimlessly, looking for anything that would help her, until she encountered a solitary wizard. He knew her immediately by her distinctive appearance. He knew her father, he said. He had known her as a child.

He took pity on her, for the sake of that old friendship, and took her in. He taught her a small handful of spells that would help her on her way, and he sent his own familiar to aid and protect her in her quest. He told her to seek the city of Peltarch, that there she could find clues to her father's disappearance.

So she set out to learn what she could, and to find her father.
