Bandits!

  • Rumour speaks of a large band of black-clad bandits attacking travellers and caravans near the crossroads and along the Nars pass, killing anyone they can without mercy. Though a great number of them were recently defeated by do-good adventurers, one cannot help but wonder how many more are still waiting and watching, hidden from sight…

  • At long last, the bandits and their camp have been found and eliminated. It all started in the Peltarch Commons after six adventurers returned from patrolling the sewers. They included Order squires Reynauld and Celia, Andrew, Romulus, Dwarf "Weave Engineer" Fafir, and a ranger named John who introduced himself as a Peltarch "Senatorial Advisor." They were joined by famous elven archer Elidor the Great, and sturdy dwarves Beourn and Gnarl.

Gnarl, the last to arrive, informed the others that he had seen four birds on the road north from Norwick near the Nars Bridge. Thinking this signalled the return of the bandits and thier bird lookouts, the whole group headed south to investigate. Well north of the bridge, the first of the birds was encountered. It was a hawk, rather than a falcon like the bandits had used before. John tamed it and got it to follow him.

Two more hawks were covering the road south but just as the party began to cross the bridge, Romulus spotted several more hawks circling over the gypsy pass to the west and called the others to go that way. On the hillside above, a hidden bandit rogue was encountered. He attempted to flee, but the many archers in the party quickly turned him into a pin cushion and dropped him.

The party proceeded into the Gypsy Pass and near the gates on the road, encountered several more bandits. These too were quickly dispatched. A larger body of bandits waited on the hillside to the south, near the cave entrance, including several archers and a few clerics. The strong party made quick work of them, but decided that their defeat had been too easy. More and stronger ones must be ahead.

Romulus, who had scouted this location the day before without finding anything, declared that this camp was new. John and Elidor cautioned the others to wait while they explored the cave entrance which led to the southernmost part of the Gypsy Camp and the spider woods. Gnarl went in behind them to disarm any traps.

They ran into an ambush and the main body of the bandits, led by a bandit chieftain and a huge half-orc brute. Gnarl fell before the others could come to his aid, but the eight remaining adventurers managed to defeat all the bandits and destroy their camp. Reynauld found a hoard of potions, scrolls, weapons, and gems; while Fafir picked up the body of Gnarl and others gathered his equipment. They took him to the Dwarven Hold in Norwick, where he was returned to life. Among the treasures found were a large number of death ward and remove paralysis potions and scrolls that should come in handy for the assault on Fendon.

  • _Elidor is seen telling stories to other adventurers or adventurers-wannabe, of how he lead his friends into a huge fight against a large grop of the bandits. And how they won by using extraordinaire powers and abilities.
Everything he tells is exagerated, but he doesn't look like bluffing at all. He speaks of a single arrow he shot that went through several bandits at the same time, how lady Ashena with a single strike of her sword, so powerful, that it cut through two of them like a thunder, or how five bandits jumped on Gnarl, and with a smooth swing of his axe he sent their heads flying.

he tries to motivate and encourage those adventurers and adventurers wannabe to join forces with him and his group to defeat the bandits once and for all!_

((perform for telling the story and possible impact on people: (take 10) 10+20 = 30))

*Lawing low for a good tendays, the bandits have not bothered innocent travelers and merchant caravans as of their last attack. That must have had something to do with the reiforcement of patrols performed by some of the Legion soldiers and other adventurers, in fact the bandits have sucessfully concealed theirs camp site thus far, althoug truth be said, that they´ve been working hard mooving their camp from one place of the forest to the other and so on.

The forrest size though, its not immense enough to conceal a Bandit Camp forever…. eventually the regular patrols performed by skilled trackers will pick up a track, a clue that´ll lead them to the Bandits hideout.
Who knows what riches have the bandits gathered after months of pillage and plunder. Exotic potions, artifacts, jewels and gold...... the expectative of a good find is always a great incentive for the Adventureres to keep searching and patrolling*

(Im planning to do a an event this Saturday, the 26th. Later in the day i´ll post at what time will it start. As always, everyone is free to show up and join the party, independently of their level and class :w00t: )

  • At noon, Romulus left the gates of Peltarch headed south. Wearing his blue Legion cloak and helmet, and carrying his bow, he walked along the center of the road, keeping his eyes moving from side to side. He went all the way to Norwick's north gate. Only one falcon was spotted, the one north of the Nars Bridge. The other that had been seen hovering over the road south of the Temple of Tempus was missing. At the crossroads, Romulus spotted the ruins of some wagons from the most recent caravan attack, and two stakes with heads on them planted in the ground near the Rats and Bats Restaurant.

But this patrol was just for show. When he arrived at Norwick's north gate, he noted that guards were on duty there and alert. "Good!" he thought. Then he slipped back outside the gate and camped in the treeline west of the road.

Only after it was fully dark did he stir. "Time for the real scouting mission!" Pulling on his black scout's cloak he casted extended invisibility and cat's grace on himself. Staying well off the road, Romulus moved north along the tree line and into the woods by the Wolves' Den. He went into the gypsy cliffs woods and all the way to the spiders. That is where Beourn had told him bandits were seen earlier. None were there now.

Continuing north from the spiders into the Gypsy camp, he shortcutted through the cave and into the Gypsy Pass. Fog and rain covered his tracks as well as the invisiblitiy. Nothing unusual here either. Crossing the road stealthily just north of the Nars Bridge, he continued up through the woods to the Legion Tower. North of the tower on the wooded path, he spotted a falcon. It was the one that previously guarded the road. "If these are spies for the bandits, they apparently are covering the path to the tower now too."

Trusting to his invisibility spell and walking as silently as possible, Romulus slipped past the falcon and took the secret wooded path north that comes out near the Kobold Swamp. Scouting south and west past the Temple of Tempus and the ruined tower, he finally approached Peltarch's gates. Just inside, his invisibility wore off so he put his Legion cloak back on and continued into the city. The bandits remained well hidden, if there were any left.

*Recent patrols performed by adventurers along the Nars Road and deep into the woods have forced the Bandits to keep mooving camp from one place to another.
Erasing all signs of previous presence in a determined place, the bandits have been sucessfull at hiding their current camp location, question is for how long….

The adventurers that risk their own lives to get a clue at where the camp is located have been unsucessfull so far, perhaps the bandit scouts are being very competent at spoting the adventurers from afar or perhaps the unnusual presence of Falcons flying over the woods (Elidor and Andrew might remember a falcon flying in circles high in the sky, just minutes before a Bandits attack) has someething to do with the unsucessfull attempt at spoting the camp*

*Romulos Grey regular patrols along the Nars Road and Woods are carefully watched by scouts from the group of bandits that have made camp somewhere (location to be unveiled in a upcoming event) in the nearby woods.

Romulos Grey being the patrol soldier that he is and thus not a merchant that carrys vast ammounts of gold and precious gems not to mention other precious items and artifacts, is undoubtely left alone by the Bandit Scouts that are masters at concealing their watchfull presence in the woods.

No doubt that risking one´s life to attack a skilled Patrol soldier like Romulos Grey, would bring no considerable profit to the bandits like an unarmed and unable to defend himself simple merchant would.

Adventurers, travelers and merchants that risk a journey along the nars have that feeling that they´re being watched, however they see no one but their own traveling companions*

  • Sworn to protect commerce on behalf of Waukeen, and charged by the Troff Legion with keeping the roads safe, Romulus Grey continues to patrol the Nars Pass, Crossroads, and woods nightly searching for evidence of the bandits. So far he has been unsuccessessful. "Perhaps they only attack the unwary, or only come in daytime!" Romulus vows to redouble his efforts. "This will not stand!" he declares.

Rumour amongst traders and merchants that travel with their caravans along the nars, is that as of late the risk of traveling is to great, and no self conscious merchant would even dare to take its caravan with out adequate protection.
Merchants also speak amongst them that the bandits have had what was coming for them , however the threat is not yet dealt with and a definitive solution should be taken, a solution for wich the merchants are willling to pay handsomely…
