Screenshots

  • Sometimes DMs will ask that you show them a screenshot. Some people have been having trouble with this. There seems to be a common misconception that when using a newer operating system you can't take screenshots in NWN. That isn't the case.

    This is what to do:

    Taking Screenshots

    Option 1

Ensure that you have a TGA viewer. FastStone Image Viewer seems the preferred option.
    http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm
Infranview is another, or whatever turns up when you google 'TGA Viewer.'

    1. Hit "Print Screen." This automatically sends a screenshot to your NWN screenshots folder.
    2. C:/ -> NeverwinterNights -> NWN -> screenshots
    3. If you've never viewed a screenshot before:

    • When you double click on a screenshot file you'll be asked what you want to do.
    • Say that you want to choose from a list.
    • Say that you want to use FSViewer.
    • Click the checkbox "always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
      4. If you've previously tried to view screenshots you might have associated them with a non-TGA application. In which case instead of double clicking to open,:
    • Right click and choose, "open with…"
    • Tell it FSViewer
    • Click the checkbox "always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

    Option 2

    1. Hit "Print Screen."
    2. Open Microsoft Paint or some other image editing software.
    3. Hit "Paste"
    4. Save your image file in JPEG format.

    Sharing Screenshots
This is just one suggestion. Lots of other ways to do it to. If you have an imageshack/photobucket account or your own webspace you'll already know what to do.

    1. Open the screenshot you want to share.
    2. Save it as JPEG form.

    • In FSV the save button is on the bottom row, third in from the left.
    • Hit "save" then against "save as type:" choose "JPEG Format."
    • Choose a name you'll remember. Save it in the location of your choice.
      3. Visit ImageShack http://imageshack.us/
      4. Choose "Browse" to find the JPEG.
      5. In the "Image resize" box choose "Do not resize"
      6. "Upload Now"
      7. One the upload has finished you'll see a big list of links. Chose Forum Thumbnail. This option lets the image be viewed full size very easily without being unwieldly on the forums.
      8. Share the forum thumbnail with the person who's asked to see your screenshot.

Note: If you have any issues following these instructions please drop a note and I'll try and revise them. Thanks.

  • Take screenshots when you have something to report.

Not combat log text. That is never "proof" since text is very easily edited.
