Charles Smithson



  • He was born in Waterdeep to a weapon smith and a barmaid. Charles was raised in a small house outside the city walls as any other normal boy. At the age of 13 he began helping his father with the crafting of many fine weapons. They made products for the city guard, traveling merchants to sell elsewhere, and other Adventurers that wanted a fine weapon. One day while returning home from the stall in which they worked, they found there house in a chaotic state. He and his father inspected the doorway, which lay open with the door hanging crooked on its hinges. Upon entering, they discovered Charles' mother lying on the floor with a broken blade still stuck in her lifeless body. The house was in pieces. Heirlooms gone, tables flipped, all that was valuable had been stolen, or left dead on the floor. After burying his mother, Charles kept working with his father until a day when he was of age, and decided to leave Waterdeep to make his own way in the world. His father gave him a beautiful blade, crafted with the remains of the broken blade pulled from his mother. Along with the weapon, Charles received his fathers suit of armor, of which he wore when he began smithing in the Waterdeep Guard.

    Charles traveled east until he reached Zhentil Keep, a once small mining camp that expanded into a large gathering of Human and Dwarves alike. Charles made a living by working for a mercenary group that was hired to guard the surrounding mines from bandits, goblins, and other threatening forces. During his time in Zhentil Keep, he heard many a tale of adventurous from the eastern province of Narfell. After three years of saving coin and strengthening his sword arm, he hopped a caravan and set out to begin a new life with new adventurers.
