Elagost son of none

  • The world is rittled with false seers and Palm readers. But there are those who have the sight, those who's God has granted them that which is unseen. Those who see not just with thier own two eyes, but with thier third Eye.

Some call it a gift, others a curse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His story starts in the summer, not 19 years ago. It was a day like anyother. The sun was shining high in the sky, and the birds were chirpping as they always do at this time of year. But to High-Seer John-Ryan, today was unlike anyother. He had seen what was to come, Savras the Diviner had granted him a view into what was to come, and there was nothing he could do about it.

It was almsot noon, as he strolled through the abbey, he smiled as he looked through an open window- It would not be long.

"BANG BANG BANG" John-Ryan looked up from his daydream. The time had come. A terrible, blood curtling scream rang out from north end of the Abbey. JR didn't even flinch as he strolled down the corridor towards the sanctuary. He had seen this before, everything from the visible dust he saw hanging in the sunlight to the shuudder of the door from the outsiders continued protest. He had seen, and there was nothing he could to change the outcome of this day. Oh, how he had stewed over this for months aftter this vision! he prayed, and mediated for days. But Savras would not relent. The vision had been devine, and not all the powers in the world could stop it from occuring. As the High-Seer reached the door, all fell quiet, not even the birds chirped. As he swung the gate to the abbey open, he was not surprised at what he saw. Before him lay a woman holding a basket, a deep bloody gash cut through her side, leaking her life blood upon the abbey steps. He didn't even wince. the Priest had resigned himself that this is what would happen, and had prepared himself for its outcome. The woman was dead, he knew as he calmly walked towards the baskey, gently taking it from the woman's arms. Today was a day of great sorrow, yet fantastic joy. A life of a peasent, lost. But gained? Who could tell what difference this would make in the order of things. John-Ryan's vision had not lasted much longer than him picking up the basket. He had seen what lay within, but as to it's purpose? That shadow had yet to be revealed.

"Father?" Elagost looked around the sanctuary. His gaze fell upon a pew for strides ahead of him. On it lay an open book, some elven text. But that was not what interested the young 12 year old. No, what had caught his eyes was the dipiction of the cosmos on the right hand page. As the boy stepped forward, extending his hand he felt a tug at his consiousness. as he finally reached the pew, as soon as his small hand touched the picture- he collapsed.

What was about to happen would change Elagost's life forever.

Beffore him, he saw the abbey that had been his home, the town in the valley below was a flame. Soldiers marched up the road and as he turned, he saw the monks and priests fleeing into the surronding woods carring what they could. "This shall come to pass" a voice soft and indifferent whispered into his mind. Elagost could not move to help. That which he wished to touch wisped away from him.

Suddenly things changed, he saw a walled city, armies swarmed through the gates, Elalost was perched on a balcony overlooking the city. He heard a crash as the gates below the balcony crumbled and heard the clsah of steel on steal as soldiers joined in battle. He watched as a once mighty King stood against the wall, watching his guard spend their lives in his last defense. He could smell the blood as they fell. And he watched the man being drug from is fortress in rags, being spit upon as he went. "This too shall come to pass" said the voice once more.

This changed again, and he was surrounded by a blinding light, Again the voice sounded in his head "I am Savras, through me you have seen. Go now and use your sight in my service. May your visions be clear."

and the abbey came back into sight, a much older John-Ryan stood over him shaking the boy. "You ok boy? you must have tripped on your own feet, falling down like that!" Elagost looked around, shaken and disturbed by what he had seen. "How long was I down?" he asked. His adopted father answered that he had barely had to come walk from across the room before the boy had regained his sense. All that had transpired, to Elagost had seemed like an hour? maybe more. But had actually happened in less than a half minute. He sat up, using his father to stand. "what's wrong son? are you hurt? Did you hit your head?" The boy replied somberly "No, father. I have seen, and through the diviner… I have gained my sight..."

Five years passed, Elagost had joined the clergy and performed his tasks diligently. learning the Dogma of Savras, and his duties as Seer. He learned of his duties to the commubity as well, as wittness and magistrate when asked. He followed Savras' teachings as diligently as he could, but fearing the day when his vision would come true. Yes, the time passed, but the visions he had been granted did not fade. He dreamed them everynight and again and again saw the abbey ransacked, and then watched the king fall. Since that day, five years ago, he had not been granted more sight. Nor had he shared his visions with anyone. He had been taught that nothing could change the visions he had seen, and no mortal power could alter the sight he had been given. Elagost stepped out of the abbey, looking down into the valley below, frowning suddenly.

As he gazed over the trees, he could see the road from the entrance to the valley, to the town, and up the road to the abbey. At the entrance to the valley he could see one shining column, red standards raised at regular intervals. Elagost cried out, but his voice was silenced, and his conciousness felt another's pressence."Silence seer. You can not change what is to be. your sight is true, and you can not alter what you have seen. This is burden you carry. This is the price if foresight" The whisper of so many years ago faded and he stood and watched as the town below burned.
