char: Altair MithrandirI’ve been many places in my past, and every experience I’ve had has formed me into the elf I am today. I have not lead the normal sedentary life of an elf. My travels began with my birth in Halruaa. I lived with my parents in Halarahh for the first couple years. Life was simple then. My parents both studied the arcane arts and served the magocracy under King Zalathorm. However, my life changed as soon as my parents were called to aid Halruaa in the invasion at Talath pass. The battle for Halruaa was won, but not in my eyes. The senseless invasion of Lapaliiya’s mercenaries had taken the only aspects of my life that I cared for: my parents.
The series of unfortunate events lead me into the care of Olerond, an elf who had served with my parents under King Zalathorm. Olerond lived in Arrabar, north of Halruaa in the region of Chondath. Because the city was so heavily populated with humans, Olerond committed most of his time to a fruitless political career. Never have I seen bias comparable to the prejudice against elves in Arrabar. Nevertheless, I did find my nook as a servant to a man named Butch Nairo. I’m not sure if his real name is Butch, but his kindness to me never forced me to question it. Butch was a mercenary for the Sapphire Crescent, one of the large private armies that resided in Arrabar while not on a mission. Butch showed me the use of a blade, and how not to act so much as a “stuck-up” elf. I consider Butch a father because I do not have much memory of my own. It was Butch who inspired me to wander; and that I did.
I left Arrabar after Butch’s death, with no real plans. In the beginning of my journey, I followed the coastline as far north as possible, and then to the east. It was during these travels that I came across a group of monks who called themselves the Brothers of the Pure Flame. They told me of the great lord Kossuth and his teachings. To this day I follow these teachings and honor Kossuth with a pendant given to me by my parents. However, my travels with them ended as far as Thay. Although these monks were kind to me, I could not handle the magocracy of this region. Thinking it would be like that of Halruaa, I was greatly disappointed by the evil that existed. Therefore I had to leave.
I wandered for the lesser part of a year until I stumbled upon the ex-barbarian settlement of Norwick…Perhaps this town will be another part of my journies.
