    Account Name: Vitiosus Phasmatis
    Character Name: Tom Garrett

"I was a kid. No parents, no home, running messages or picking pockets to keep my ribs from meeting my spine. One day I saw a man, folks just passed him by as if he wasn't there. I thought he must have something valuable, so I snuck up on him and made a grab…"

_A wave a memories washes over you, before isolating a single event. It shows a bustling marketplace, dabbed with such a variety of stores and merchant caravans you could find anything you desired. Zooming in further, depicting a small, bedraggled urchin darting between commoners, merchant and nobles alike towards a dark cloaked figure standing calmly in the chaos. The people seem to ignore him; or perhaps they do not see him at all. As the crowd try to fill in the space he occupies, the figure treads lightly; almost like a shadow; stepping to a new void of solitude…

The urchin has finally found his mark, standing behind him with a skinning knife, eying the coin purse dangling from his waist. With a quick move the boy cuts the thin cord holding it in place, and lets the purse fall into his open hand. Almost immediately, the figure has spun around; his hand outstretched. A firm grip on the hand that took, he stares grimly at the boy, “That's not for you.” The child whimpers slightly, “Please sir, I'm hungry, don't tell the City Watch, I promise...--,” he's cut off by the grim tone of his mark, “What is your name, boy?”

A crease forms on his forehead, as if thinking carefully on what to say. Finally, the boy speaks, “Tom.” The figure leans closer, allowing the boy to see his features beneath the darkness. It is an old man, nearing his sixties. A slight smirk on his face, he speaks softly, “You have a talent lad.” Afraid and uncertain of his fate, Tom cries out as he tugs at his trapped arm, “Let go of me old man!”

The old man continues to speak, unhindered by the cries of a distraught child, “To see one of the Circle of the Grey Ribbon is not an easy thing, especially one who does not wish to be seen. We have a need for those as gifted as yourself. If you've grown tired of how you live, come with me and we will show you a different way.” Pulling out the watering eyes and whining voice, the Tom cries out again, this time pulling harder on his arm, “Leave me alone!” And the grip is released, causing him to come crashing down onto the cobblestone. “As you wish”, the old man whispers as he wanders off through the crowd. Tom scrambles to his feet, and begins to run in the opposite direction before stopping to look back..._

"I caught up with him just before he vanished into the crowd. It was the beginning of a very long education…"
