Whispers at the Fire

  • _A barracade was put in place on top of the Hill north of Norwick, where a lone (assumed) lunatic claimed the area as his and told everyone he was defending the pass from hobgoblins. Eventually, some of his people stepped from the trees and a fight broke out with a meager force from Norwick. It was quick, but deadly.

Although these ruffians on the hill lost many more than the Norwick folks did, they were more numerous and eventually took the hill. They are now defending the position ((OOC they are there)) and several of their archers can be seen on the hilltops throughout the pass.

The Militia and Town leaders are meeting and discussing this obvious threat, but they encourage all townsfolk not to worry, as this is clearly a "misunderstanding" of sorts. Meanwhile the Norwick guards and scouts are busily fortifying defenses amd heading out on reconaissance missions to assumedly keep an eye on these new-comers._

  • A small group of Norwick Scouts® ride out from the inner gate on horseback escorting a young halfelven girl in ill-fitting leathers. They seem to be equipped for a long journey, their mounts carrying enough supplies to last months in the wild. They make their way to the crossroads then disappear from the view of the guards there as they continue to ride northwest.

  • One fine day (err rainy day since Norwick is always rainy), the Paladin Kara and Slipshadow head south out of town, veering off slightly to the west, rumours are they headed to the ancient ruins near the old druid circle. What happend there is slightly vague, something about shadows and a prophesy and a champion rising to battle for the light. A day later, an exhausted Kara and Slip arrive back in Norwick. Just before entering the gate Slip collapses, exhausted and is eventually dragged in by a guardsmen and Kara. While they await a healer, the druid known as Wolf arrives and heals the near to death Slip and Kara. Eventually Slip comes to and after a breif recount of what happend they all part ways.

  • _Watching the Legionairre walk towards Norwick, Foilir nods to the guards and aims a stream of processed ale at the stone.

"There yeh go Sam…. Treatin yeh memory as it deserves teh be treated..."

Foilir gives a few shakes and follows the legionnaire into town, nodding again to the guards before he goes._

  • Will notes the yellow stain in the snow around the stone.

Anyone close enough to hear might have heard him mention, to no one in particular, that Norwick apparently has no laws about relieving oneself in public within the area claimed by Norwick - a fact that some people are sure to take advantage of, once they become aware of it.

  • Dwin stops by to investigate the act of witchery that changed "Pissing Stone" into something else over night.

Tis much more pleasin' to look at, but its still seems to be clouded by some evil presence…. could just be the years o piss, I guess... but it seems somethin' aint right here.

I am gonna ask me people to look into this...

With that he relieves himself and heads back to town.

  • Travelers who had noticed the marker on Sams hill getting weathered and yellow will see it gleaming fresh and bold as if new again one morning. Any queries to the guards will show that they were busy keeping the pass clear of hobgoblins that night, so don't know what happened to make it so clean and bold again, but it is as if someone asked the stone itself to reshape to it's old form, turning back any aging and marks it had taken.

Edit by Herrold: Do not speak for NPCs what they saw or heard.

  • Another fight night has come and gone, consisting of a shoot, a race and a boxing match. Rumor has it next fight night will be a team competition with at least one match involving sparing with staves … and clubs for the "right-sized" folk. Seems the chancellor is also considering 3 man team events if there is a demand for it.

The bartender at the Boarshead is also letting everyone know that the Chancellor is accepting any special requests for future fight night events. Just leave a note with the bartender for your idea to be considered.

(( fight this next sunday at 10pm est.
send me a forum pm if you have something you'd like to see on fight night…then continue to harass me in irc until it happens 🙂
    ))

  • at one of his visits to the boarshead, the Chancellor listens to the rumors of the woman from the barkeep over a bottle of wine. He scoffs at the part about watching their backs better

Bah, we did well enough. reminds me of Penny…shrugs reconsidering his words …well, a younger more agile penny…without the pink hair of course. Always sneaking about playing games. rolls his eyes

Regardless, she seems harmless enough…actually caught a glimpse of her appear behind a goblin caster, slit its throat then vanish in the chaos of battle…takes a careful sip from his glass …she’s good, I’ll give her that.

  • Adventurers into the Rawlins have reported various sightings of a young woman, sculking, sneaking, following them about….
when confronted the young woman smiles slyly and mentions that they should watch their backs a bit better.

  • Rumor spreads that the chancellor and guard at the south gate were assaulted by a goblin of great power or cunning before the last huge assault at the gates. Two guards were serioulsy injured and two had their skins tossed over the walls before the assault. The goblin mage escaped into the wood it seems.

  • Two druids named Wolf and Raisa were seen leading many deer outside the gates of Norwick. They were helped by a strange merchant named Alexi. It seems the chancellor has had a little problem of animals getting into town and asked the three to lead them out so they would not have to be killed. The chancellor asks that "everyone" remember to close the southern gate so things like this do not happen again.

  • A sturdy but nimble elf strides through the town, quietly taking stock of defenses, and conversing briefly with gate guards and archers. He disappears into the barracks for a few minutes before heading into the Rawlins.

  • _A group of battered and extremely cranky-looking druids are seem manhandling a small, struggling figure… a hin or a gnome... into town, through town, and finally into Friar Fred's. A truly awful smell trails after them.

They are shortly afterwards seem, looking even more battered than before, hauling the hin or gnome (whose head is now encased in a block of stone) into the militia barracks._

    -Lagermane

  • A small group of adventurers fended off a small force of goblins that attacked the southern gate. They followed a trail that led to the southern abandoned cave, where they met resistance by more goblins. But, the goblins were surprisingly clever and sprung an ambush on them, trapping them in the cave with a giant umberhulk. They managed to defeat the ambush force and return to town without further incident. Some of the adventurers warn others that umberhulks were seen wandering out in the woods, dangerously close to town.

((Thanks Herrold for having my character feel a real sense of danger in a long while 🙂 ))

  • Dwin is seen talking to his old friend Frago and trying to ascertain why he was put in any type of situation that might have harmed his business. He leaves it that he will folow up and get back to him. A small sack of coins trades hands.

  • Talk has been circulating of a rather awkward incident in which Alexi was trapped naked in Frago's cage. While the known troublemaker protested his innocence, Frago vocally complained to those around, demanding his arrest for attempted parrot theft as well as indecent behavior. The chancellor's sister tried to reason with the shopkeeper, but Frago didn't budge until a militia member came by. Maythor took the suspect into custody, but released him with a minor fine for trespassing.

On a possibly related note, a tenday later Frago's business was temporarily halted. The gnome could be heard loudly complaining about Riannon, business permits, and 'failure to properly secure animals for sale.' A recent reinspection of the stall has seen Frago's business return to normal, after the better part of a month on hiatus.

    • Rumors spread of man in black wielding two war hammers appearing in town then disappearing just as soon as he arrived leaving some goblins bodies on the ground a he goes*

  • Three human men and a halfling woman were seen coming from the hobgoblin cave in the Nars Pass carrying two bodies, a keg, a large box of goods, and sacks of ore.

The rumour around town is that the bodies were of two traders who were heading north in the Nars pass on their way to meet with dwarven clients. They were ambushed, killed, and looted by the dirty hobber bandits who plague the pass.

The travellers happened upon the traders' wagon on the road to Peltarch, and followed the bloody hobgoblin trail back into the cave where they eventually recovered some of the trade goods and the bodies.

Word travels that Tristina attempted to pray for the return of the traders' souls, but they did not wish it. They were from far in the south and had no family in Norwick. The adventuring group paid for their burial.

  • Four hins headed south recently to search the Rawlinswood for a missing Silver Valley resident. They fear she may have been kidnapped. After several failed attempts to question bugbears and a thorough search of the towers in the southwest woods, the brave four return to Norwick disappointed, but not without hope that one day the missing hin would be found.
