Whispers at the Fire

The militia apparently have a new drinking song making the rounds of the guardroom:
@55ffb3c501:
The Norwick Worm
_Locrian he went fishing once, out fishing in the weir
He caught a fish upon his hook he thought looked mighty queer
Now what a kind of fish it was, Locrian couldn't tell
But he didn't like the looks of it, so he hurled it down a wellNow the fish-worm got big and fat and it growed an awful size
With a great big head and great big teeth and great big googly eyes
So then at night it would crawl out a-looking for some booze
Scaring people on the road as it milked a dozen coosThe fearful worm was prone to dine on lambs and calves and sheep
And swallowed little babes alive when they lay down to sleep
So Loc ran up and arrested it, then he cut it in two halves
"That'll stop you eatin' babes, an sheep an lambs an calves, oi."So now you know how all the folks on both sides of the weir
Lost lots of sleep and lots of sheep and lived in mortal fear
So drink a health to Capt'n Loc, who kept the babes from harm
With his quite heroic halving of the famous Norwick Worm!_

Controversy over Fight Night! Who won, truly? The rules were harsh, and Elidur's first time hosting was a confusing experience for so many people! Belia's team disqualified in the finale, it was called, they took second to a dubious call. Perhaps he was paid off, perhaps he was on the other side of the arena and had no clear sight of how wide the big bear's span truly was. Perhaps so many things! Fight Night is 'over', the prizes were splendid and life goes on!

Ash is seen running around Norwick making snow badgers from the snow…
-
For a little over two days straight, central Norwick seems to be spared from the snow.
-
In the midst of the Norwickian winter wonderland, a strange and almost indescribably fat man has of late made himself at home. Though he seems to have no real idea where Norwick is in relation to anywhere else in Faerun, he seems to be a generally friendly enough person.
He's been particularly helpful about town, seen repairing damage from bugbear raids, inclement weather, and any other nasty thing that may happen to befall the buildings about town. More interestingly, however, is that he can be seen to be using the money he earns from this to arm himself rather impressively…
-
Thorn also seems to be enjoying the snow, even wearing winter wolf furs to keep warm, delighted that the cold lands he got stuck in so long ago are finally returning to normal. He will on more than one occasion counter Elvas snowball with one of his own!
Word also spreads the Walter is taking a change due to the cold snow! He's put on pants!
-
The already unusually happy Elva seems to be absolutely delighted by the snow, running around skipping with a "Ladadadida" throwing sneak attack snowballs at friends, both real and imaginary, and generally acting like a 9 year old

With little fanfare, Diadne of Kossuth moves into the Grapevine Inn.
However, it’s with a frown and deep concern that she turns her head skyward, the snow settling on her hair. She stands by the fire in the center of town, and offers prayers to Kossuth, asking others to join in.
“Let Kossuth stoke the fires in your hearts, and give courage to fight these agents of Auril. Pray to him to aid you in your struggles, and keep Norwick safe. May his blessings turn the cold aside, and reduce thy enemies to cinder and ash”

Norwick is under attack. Everyone knows this by now. But the nature of the attacks changed recently with the sudden arrival of cold, snow, and "other planar" creatures. Snow has been falling heavily around south gate all day and night. Possessed deer chased an adventurer inside the gates. Victoria and Romulus took care of them.
When Romulus went out to scout, he found the snow much heavier and the cold much more biting; so much so that it was difficult to move around. Then the vorticies began to appear all around, signalling the arrival of a series of fierce creatures. These included a blue sklaad, a dire bear, quasits, winged horrors, a succubus archer, and white dragon wurmlings.
The Norwick defenders, at first just Rasuil, Thorn, Victoria, and Romulus; were gradually joined by others: Tai, Corwin, Lence, Rary, and Fadia. They were sufficient to fight off all the attackers. Some sets of vorticies did not bring creatures, they brough traps laid all over the roads and platforms near the gate and on the road as far north as the Grapevine.
Through it all, the snow and biting cold continued to plague the defenders. What is our town coming to?
-
It has been snowing a lot in Norwick… and the further south you go, the colder it is - even being outright painfully chilling at the southern reaches.
-
Rumor is that a pair of brave adventurers ventured into the Beholder's cave…and came out alive from it..as proof of their heroic adventure, they were carrying with them some things, including a beholder's eye.
-
Seems that at the south gates, María was extremly pissed, she was shouting and some people claim she threatened someone in a skirt. It's said that she used a spell that made her fists of iron and that she slammed her fist against the archery tower, making it shake….
What caused her to go mad? Some say she's just crazy, others that the man insulted her family...though it's also rumoured that her lisp was mocked...

A normally upbeat and generally happy Theron Goss has been in a rather somber and depressed mood as of late. He won't say why really, all he states is that he hopes that one day something he has lost might one day return to him.
He tells his friends that this region no longer holds interest for him now and that he is off to the south on the next boat or Caravan to the Sea of Fallen Stars. He may return one day, but for now must go. He bids farewell and departs.
-
Word quickly spreads that a giant stegadon, one large enough to swallow Grag whole, was felled inside the southern gates. For the time being it is left where it fell until a small contingent of guards arrive to move it elsewhere. Rumour has it that it may be placed near the fair grounds for all to admirer.

Rumors spread about the repeated attacks by the goblins at the south gate of the town. The attacks occur more often and usually at night. Not long ago a man, Dermin, a woman Victoria (both human) and a dwarf, Gnarl have resisted an invasion, which ended quickly and for town's sake.
-
word would spread around norwick of the un safe crypts. for some reason adventurer's who travel inside them, have the doors locked behind them, making it very hard, if not impossible to escape.
-
Randomly the small stream in front of the Grapvine Inn catches fire, a very odd sight with all the flames burning on the top of the water. Shouts of fire spread and the Inn staff rush out to fight it, startled as it burns out almost immediately, they stand looking a little confused before entering back in to the inn.
-
Rumor has it that Norwick is a mess at the moment. Bugbear bodies all over the gates area, some even inside, are being carted out. The guard Cecil can be seen running about afterwards helping with cleaning and putting away catapults, talking to people, and letting people know that for the half day following the attack, weapons were allowed out, but the law is likely put right back in place after a day.
He begins writing a rather long report out by Timmot, some time after. If asked, he says that some changes need to be made, and hopefully his suggestions might help.
-
_The littlest Town Crier, a small boy who just ten days ago had been struck by lightning and killed whilst praising Amaunator, was out by the South Gate again with a limp and an obvious speech impediment. Adventurers crowded around, concern showing on their faces before he was escorted to the docks and taken north by a bard and a lawman.
He's not been seen in Norwick since.
In other news, said bard has been asking around town about any kin that said boy may have, or the burial plots of his parents._

Because of the nature of the attack, the severity and the tactics of Umberhulk tunnels that seemed purely bent on slaying him and him alone - considering the end of the attack once he, the only fatally affected victim of the asault in the attack, Walter has suggested that this may have been the work of Rooves' allies. Or Rooves himself, made noble by Walter so claimed by himself when he gifted the Goblin some coal, and a Goblin charm to highten his standing in the Goblin tribes - so that the Goblin would have an even chance on their next meeting.
