Whispers at the Fire

  • The Halfling Defence League

Word spreads that one of the often seen faces of Norwick, Gears, lashed out at the visiting Thayvian captain Harion just beyond the northern gates. It is said the hin knocked him straight off a cliff and stabbed him repeatedly despite others' efforts to intervene. Some say the shadows themselves rose up and aided Gears. Whatever the case may be, the captain ended up running away from the incensed halfling, through Norwick's northern gates and all the way out the southern ones, bleeding profusely.

  • Fendon tiptoes his way out into the Commons to read an official proclamation.

    Hear YEE! hear YEE!

    By Order of his Honor,
    Lord Chancellor Dolvak,

    The Treacherous, Dangerous and
    Ambiguously Named Criminal
    Elith Healinghands
    Shall be Executed at Mid-Night,
    One Ten-day from Today.

His Crimes put the Realm and its
Brave Citizens in Mortal Danger, and
Took more than a few Brave Souls away from us.

May the Criminal's God be as Merciful on him
    As Lord Dolvak has been.

After reading the note, Fendon quickly retreats back inside, avoiding any questions or eye contact.

((9pm EST on 6 May 2008 is when we would like to do this…))

  • ICC

As usual, Bagnar has been seen talking to Devvie and Mordie about everything, ranging from bellybutton lint, to how overpriced Devlin's masterwork longswords are.

  • Celestria frowns deeply hearing about visitors gettings into the jail and wanders about asking various people how this happened since the jail room is locked and can only be accessed by Norwick personnel with keys.

  • Legion

    muttering to himself
<g>What the fark did he do anyways?</g>

  • _After a few visitors get in to see the criminal, the jail is closed to any further public entry. Double the normal number of guards are placed at the Barracks entry and there are rumored to be 2 guards watching Elith at all times.

Rumors amongst the townspeople range everywhere from immediate execution to life imprisonment as the fate of the criminal, but thus far the Lord Chancellor and his senior advisers are quiet on the subject._

  • _Dondiah was seen whispering heatedly with Ronan. Often, she visits the Norwick jail, where Elith is being kept.

Those may notice that she is mostly always pale and absent minded. Quite different from the bard that laughed and sang and danced._

  • Quite some time after five intrepid adventurers left norwick only one can be seen returning as they left, apparently something turned the other three into cute little zombie eating penguins, and one into a bardic snowman…

But thanks to the care of a kind stranger they were soon returned to normal.. all be it with a craving for fish and an ocasional flap of the arms.

  • A a plae skinned, blue haired human in fancy clothes has been seen smoking cigars and spouting an odd sort of common by the fire in Norwick lately. He mostly sits about studying books when no one is around. Occasionally he can be seen identifying items for adventurers and taking a small payment for his service. He seems to be more of a business man than and adventurer. He sticks to the urban centres of Narfell, as opposed to going out and exploring the out lying areas.

  • Jerrick on a now rare trip into town overhears talk of these creatures, stops, seems to think a moment, then rushes off to the wolves den

  • The Halfling Defence League

A group of adventurers led by Dietrick consisting of Aramuil, Belia, Benji, Elyl and Nydne to go on a supposed trip to find "strange creatures looking like hins" return one evening from the south claiming to have seen and met the strange hin look-alike creatures. Although whether true or not remains anyone's guess.

  • _Late one evening, half a dozen people exit the gates of the Great Hall.

All are well armed, and 2 of them are pushing/pulling a cart that is typically used to haul sick or dead people to and from the barracks/apothecary/graveyard. The card is covered with a large oilskin, presumedly to protect whatever is inside from the currently falling rain. All are wearing helms, so its tough to know who any of them might be.

The group moves quickly through town, and heads northward where they are seen entering the Kelemvorite Temple.

Within 15 minutes the group returns to the barracks, without their cart or cargo._

  • The trickle of wizards, sorcerers and arcanists of all kinds continues to pass through Norwick, with mages of all persuasions and demeanours passing through the town, most though not all when questioned seem to be from the Kingdom of Tethyr, or lands surrounding it. They invariably stay in town for a few days, then continue their journey northwards towards Jiyyd and beyond.

In other rumours, the only group of arcanists not to move north, the entourage which arrived from the Royal Magic Acadamy of Tethyr that is staying in Spellweaver Keep, is said to have suffered a tragedy; one of their number, the representative for the school of divination seems to have gone missing. The remaining mages from the Acadamy are said to be worried for her fate and know little of what could have befallen her. Their leader, Count Fylam Entras, has implored that anybody with information on her whereabouts or fate should contact him at the Keep at once.

  • The Halfling Defence League

A pure great white light is seen shooting up from the south ruins of old Norwick one early morning, the happy laughter of a little girl can be heard in the winds flowing. Rumours go about that Dietrick the hin has laid the little ghost girl who haunts the southern ruins to rest.

  • Jerrick hasn't been seen in town for a while.

He DID however, tell people that he wouldn't be there for a reason, but would be instead at the Glen. He claimed to be Waiting for someone, but didn't quite seem to know just WHO he was waiting for.

During the day a small tendril of black smoke rises from the south east of Norwick, a purposefully small but noticeable fire, probably signaling that Jerrick is there when it is burning.

  • After many days in the jailhouse in norwick Thazar is seen leaving it with the chancellor. Covered in bark, and letting out a long list of cuss words, he heads toward peltarch with little more than a busted wooden staff and rags on his back.

((edited by Dwin… he wouldn't whistle...))

  • "JAAAAHN?"

Led into Norwick from the pass was a mysterious woman, a tall, and muscular redhead, who kept shouting and screaming the name. No magic or words seemed to reach her properly, though she also seemed to react to what was said around her. In the end she was carried into the healers by Devlin, when her pleading scream had already become a desperate plea, a whimper almost. She passed out there, eventually, and was later identified as a member of the sisterhood, known as Melody.

((Special kudos to Caoimh and Ander for some weird progress in Melody's story. Great fun ^^ Sorry to cut it short everyone, it was late for me))

  • A short while later, Dwin and the guards emerge with slight smirks and giggling. Dwin rubs his knuckles in a way that might suggest they are sore.

  • The Chancellor and several guards are seen entering the barracks where the Red Wizard is presumed to be held.

  • _Hunters, rangers, and adventurers who brave the Rawlinswood can increasingly be heard bringing back tales of the devastation wrought by the blast from the destruction of the demon fortress… stories of barren expanses of rock and ash, the charred remains of corrupted trees, foul gasses bubbling from the blackened soil, and glowing patches of molten rock that refuse to cool.

In more frightened tones they recount the presence of animals and slimes twisted and deformed, sometimes with terrifying results.

It seems likely that the recovery of the eastern Rawlins will take a long, long time and perhaps a lot of work and toil._
