Whispers at the Fire

  • //I am assuming that the bugbear remains untouched for a while, if not, ignore//

Rumour has it that, after the corpse had lain there for a bit, the wizard some might know as Ezachiel walked up to it, and using some kind of magic, set it on fire until there was nothing left but ash.

  • Apparently the bugbears are now training exceptional adventurers! In a daring heroic or villainous deed a lone bugbear broke through the town's defenses and managed to push deep into Norwick, until at last a spell from Alora took him down. Rumors wonder if the bugbear will stay dead or strike a deal with a demon to return to life…

  • _The young and often silent elf Ridian can be seen watching the children with mingled expressions of consternation, shock and, very strange for him, amusement and sometimes even endearment.

He has been inquiring where to find the performing teacher._

  • Rumor has it that the guards are listening closely for anyone spreading rumors about Norwick being unjust and are reporting such behavior to both Lords Dolvak and Corvance as appropriate.

  • _Rumor spreads quickly that there seems to be no law within Norwick. A known warrior, Melanie, struck down the known banites, Zanetar and Lealac, for no apparent reason. The banites did not resist and when struck down, were taken to jail with no charge of any crime.

There were many witnesses, some saying the banite struck first. Most insist he did not, and the one who started the fight is left free without any charge of assualt.

Whatever the feelings Norwick has for the followers of Bane, it is clear that anyone can strike them for no reason without fear of being put in a cell._

  • the short and burly dwarf is seen making much noise and construction of the norwick town hall. What an artistic dwarf might be doing in a kitchen with hammers and an anvil is anyone's guess. Rumor has it the cook is right pissed at the intrusion. Other rumors state the cook is very happy as she is using it as an excuse to not make meals and taking a much needed vacation. Whatever the truth is really is unknown, but it is certain that the bellowing of a dwarf along with the clanging of hammers can be heard.

  • _Early risers in the town are witnesses to a strange gathering just outside the north gates. A group of close to thirty youngsters ranging from very young to almost teen are seen sitting in the grass in a semi-circle while a young couple, both with shockingly white hair for their age stand before them. With a few whispered words the man disappears, as the woman gives a smile and turns to the students, choosing one randomly and hauling him to the front with her.

What follows next can best be described by the students there, though those few onlookers watched amazed as well as what appeared to be a large orc took the young woman’s place, and the child almost appeared as a tall glowing elfin lord. The children watched with smiles and laughter as a large battle took place between the orc and the elf, with the elf hard pressed in the battle. Much to the students, and the onlookers, delight, just as it seemed that the elf would surely loose, he looked up as a vision came to the sky, the face of a crying elven woman, and renewed strength seemed to possess the elven warrior, and he struck the orc a strong blow, blinding one of the orc’s eyes.

Word spreads quickly of the almost play and many were sad to find on rushing up that the illusions were already fading, and the child was but a child again, and the one-eyed orc was back to a young woman with white hair.

Children are heard playing in the village now… and it never fails that you hear at least one say, “I want to be Corellon this time!”_

  • The young woman who calls herself Quara and styles herself as an adventurer, proudly claims she drove back the goblin threat into the deeper woods - admittedly with the help of two men, Briar and Sion. According to her story a group of nasty, well armed goblins - "They had clubs! CLUBS, I tell you!" - were led by a particular nasty one to infiltrate a cave near the lake. From there, she says, the goblins intended to set their plans to take over Norwick once more in motion. With a daring move, so she explains to all listening, her companions and she circumvented the rear guard of the goblins and struck from the flank, Briar succesfully sneaking up on the leader of the goblin forces, killing him in one quick fatal strike. After that the remaining goblin horde scattered and was quickly droven scurrying back into their holes in the deeper woods by the relentless and deadly arrows of Sion and Briar.

  • _Rumor has it that an undead paladin and the Banite archpriest Zanetar fought shoulder to shoulder in the wreckage of the Norwick south gate against hordes of corrupted goblins trying to storm the town.

Of course, rumor also has it that the Giant Cow of the Nars Pass is on the loose again, along with the vicious and cunning murky-do._

  • Word spreads that two statues of Norwick Militia are found standing at the southgate. The workmanship and detail is dumbfounding.

  • Ezachiel can be seen walking around Norwick again, having been absent for months.

  • A very excited Rilia is seen escorting a very short and stocky dwarf around norwick. He is shorter than the average dwarf and covered almost exclusively from head to toe in what seems to be hair. His white busy beard blending almost seamlessly with his hair. His dark clever eyes are almost beady because of all the shag. It is startling to see the skin of forehead and cheeks in comparison. Rilia seems not the least bit uncomfortable with the dwarf though and smiles often and politely to him pointing to things and speaking in common. Rilia introduces him to the Chancellor and Lord Dwin. Apparently this dwarf is an artist of some sort.

  • _Long time assistant to Tristina, the half elven healer Kia comes skipping into town telling any that will listen, that the militia soldier, Elyl Wefneran, has asked her to be his bride!!!!

Some local women grumble about another good man off the market, while others seem to rejoice in the news._

  • Strange things have been happening around Norwick. Things repaired druing the day are distroyed or seem to fall apart at night. Porgress is verry slow in the rebuilding and almost seems to be at a stand still.

  • _A strange cloaked man has been spotted lurking by the south fire in town. He seems oddly displaced, but appears to be making some effort to fit in.

Most recently he was seen dispensing advice to a shy elf who had lost a loved one, although the hooded human's relentless use of logic was probably not much consolation._

  • Rilia has been seen looking for Dwin. She seems interested in speaking with him about several things.

  • _Wren Halfabrick is seen in the Boarshead getting loudly but peaceably drunk after her guard shift, and tells the clientele a long story about the things living under the ground, in caverns beneath the town and woods.

She rambles on about 'planar ants' and pairs of umber hulks and 'red clacky packs, with hooks', but when she gets to the part of her story dealing with the 'rubble of conquered Arnath' a note of fear enters her voice._

"It was like a gnoll, bout seven foot, only shaggier… an white-haired, pale... came charging outta the gate... laid into Elyl and wouldn't let up... I musta stabbed it inna groin ten times, an it wouldn't fall down... jusssst kept chopping... Elyl was at death's door by the time it fell down, with the other three a us having thrown everything and the kitchen sink at it for way too long... no gnoll can take that kinda punishment... or give it out... hells, that thing was to gnolls as.. as... bugbears are to goblins..."

She concludes her bout of drinking with a warning to stay away from that place… although several people noticed her purse seemed far more heavy than usual for the perpetually-broke Wren.

  • _More excitement at the south gate, as evil gnomes appeared and caused the odd stones east of the gate to go berserk, spitting out various magical effects and gating in demons. The chancellor, his advisor, the Norwick Militia, and nearby adventurers repelled the attacks and closed the portal, leaving scores of dead demons and three dead defenders to be raised.

Old-timers say such behavior from the stones was common in the past, and fear this could become common again…_

  • _It is rumored that a white haired mage, known as Ronan, saved the guard Mord and Seth from a permenant stone fate. Its said that they were turned to stone by a minotaur and then Ronan bravely chased it off with a fantastic display of magical skill. He then dragged the bodies to the lake and a few days later, they were restored to normal!

It is also said Ronan cleaned the bird droppings off of Seth and Mord after they were restored._

  • It is rumored that for a few days a memorial to the guard was seen on the island in the lake south of Norwick. Two warriors, swords drawn with a rearing bear in the background. Now nothng but some stone fragments remain.
