The Adventures of Dramic Jelfen

  • Thus begins the tale of Dramic Jelfen, who would be known as Dramic the Bold. Yet to those that would come to know him in the coming days, bold seemed the furthest from the truth.

Dramic peeked over the tree root he was hiding behind. A human settlement straddled the valley blocking the passage north. Imposing wooden walls, and an impressive gate stood at one of the few means of travel. Worse, two large, burly humans stood just inside the gates on the hill staring down the path. Dramic was in a panic. How could he get to Jiyyd if this was the only way north?

Dramic hid in the tall grass and crawled towards the gate on his belly. Carefully, he slipped through the gate then after what seemed like hours of waiting, crawled past the guards as they were replaced. Large wooden structures were everywhere, humans were everywhere, Dramic's breathing began to quicken. The words of the Eldest of his people came to him, "We hide from those not of the people. If we can not hide, we run."

Dramic squeaked as a human came near his hiding place, then ran for all he was worth. North. He needed to go north. He had seen how the south gate worked so as he reached yet another gate to the north, he quickly set it in motion and ran out and into the Nars. He had made it. No human would eat him this day, he thought.

The road ahead was empty, no humans in sight. Dramic paused to catch his breath and took out an old, crinkled letter to read it once more. With a determined grin, he took note of the directions it gave and began moving north again, looking for where the road split, split and headed towards what would be his new home, Jiyyd.

And so Dramic was free of the village of Norwick, a village he was convinced was full of hin eating humans. He would find Jiyyd and more in the coming days, but nothing would be as he was taught. And so, with Norwick behind him, his journey continued . . .
