Baron Gormonlythe's Campaign

  • The Damaran Baron begins his campaign with a highly publicised Rally in the Residential District. A light fall of rain hindered turnout somewhat, but he still seemed to get a decent enough crowd of mostly wealthy families and attendants.

"Noble Peltarch, the Jewel of the Icelace, thank you all for coming to hear what I have to say today. Many of you do not know why I am here in your home, an outsider running for your Senate. The first thing you should know about me, my friends, is that I am not so foreign as you have heard. I was born in Peltarch, right smack in the middle of the Docks, in a lowly midwife's hut.

But merely being born here does not mean I belong here, surely! Aye, though I may technically be a citizen, I am not yet a part of this beautiful city, I freely admit that. Yet it has been in my heart to return to the place of my birth for so long, but the death of my father the previous Baron left me with the inherited weight of many responsibilities that tied me to my estates in Damara for many long years.

Now that I have come to you, I come with an offer. I wish to be part of your city…but by the end of this campaign I assure you, you shall want me just as much! As a cousin to the King of Damara, and a respected Lord, there is much good I could do for your city! I see a Peltarch that is made richer, more prosperous, grander and of course…safer, though more concrete ties with your westerly neighbour!

The Orcs that have invaded your foothills once tyranised the Damaran countryside too, yes even in my own estates and land, I have fought them myself long before they troubled you! I know their tactics, their particularities, their leaders and most importantly their weaknesses. Why do you think they fled eastwards? And what of the notorious villains hiding out in Highhold, where they have fled to yet again after your mighty General Lavindo bested their latest bid to destroy you? If elected, a co-ordinated siege with Damaran allies could finally crush that hitherto impenetrable stronghold!

I have much to offer your city, because of my unique position. All I ask is that you do not discount all these opportunities when you eventually go to vote. Thank you for listening.

The Baron bows cordially to some equally cordial applause, and then proceeds to mingle and talk with the rally's guests.

  • Gormonlythe's banners and signs go up later than some of his fellow candidates, but it seems he has gone to greater expense in their designs, as they are particularily flashy and colourful (though they are fewer in number than others).

"Baron Gormonlythe; a different candidate for a different future."

"Gormonlythe: Bringing new Trade, new Allies and Better Times for All!"

  • Ah, excellent responses sir. Thank you.

  • "Excellent questions, sir. Firstly, my brother is handling our family estates and responsibilities in Damara. Secondly, a war between peltarch and damara is not possible while King Darius reigns, and if he were to be supplanted (and may Helm guard him from such evils) I would hold no loyalty to any pretender.

Finally, of course I have no designs on any immediate actions regarding highhold, but the position of Senator is lifelong and I merely aim to show I have long term plans for dealing with this problem."

  • Symone Au'Etine being present at the speech so that he may learn more of the senatorial candidates, approaches the Baron and politely requests if he may answer a few questions.

You mentioned your Baronship in Damara. Do you continue to hold the title despite having chosen to permanently relocate to Peltarch? If so, how do you plan to balance your responsibilities.

How would you react to the unlikely case of hostilities between your former home and here? Would you resign, or would you continue to serve the Jewel devotely?

Concerning Highhold, do you feel it is a good idea to begin speaking of war so soon after the previous? Do you believe Peltarch has the personnel to carry out such an invasion?

    Thank you for your time.
